Lighting The new DIY Section

Hey @BigSm0 the time has come, my lights are off for the summer, the cobs are coming!! I've had a look at their insides and too a few snaps. You were right about how they use different components. 2 viparspectras with different brand drivers lol.
Anyway could you or any one point me in the right direction to convert these.....a 450 + 600. Am i right in thinking i would divide the voltage of the drivers by the voltage of the cobs i choose to deterain how many each driver can take? Thanks in advance guys

Yes you are correct. I just converted one of these for a friend and it’s identical. Just based on the lights size alone I’d suggest running a max of 4 cobs in there. With the higher voltage of the drivers you could run just about any cob you wanted.

Brilliant, thanks for your reply bigsmo. And 4 was my thought too. (I must be listening for a change haha) same on the size part as I thought the 600 drivers would take 6 50w cobs but mounting them would be tricky as with the size issue as you say. So maybe 1 cob per heatsink on the 600. and would those heatsinks on the 450 be sufficient for 2 cobs each? Or could I maybe swap heatsinks so that 2 of the bigger 600 heatsinks take 2 cobs in the 450 frame and the smaller 450 heatsinks take 1 each in the 600 frame....If you get me lol.

So i just found these on ebay, seem to be a good deal? Could anyone suggest the best combo of kelvin over 4 cobs? (×2) going to do 2 lights in the end so 8 cobs. Also would any of these combos give a good enough veg light or should i look for something at the bluer end to mix in too?
Cheers guys.

@BigSm0 could you shed any light on my last couple of questions? I'm eager to get converting but don't want to buy shite components. @cornell584 you did a pretty sweet conversion I noticed, similar to what I'm looking at....any advice for a fellow stoner :pass:
Cheers guys

I’d skip the cobs you found, the voltages aren’t ideal for the setup. I would go with 1812’s since they are 50volts. Most wattage from the drivers. The 1818’s are a bit more money and conversions should remain as inexpensive as possible. If your spending top £ converting your better off pitching it in the trash and building from scratch. Everyone goes through this. Bigger this, better that and eventually a week later they say they are building new.

Another thing people are getting mixed up with is they think they need to mix spectrums. If things are ideal it can help but blending cobs isn’t an easy task. The red and blue led lights actually have a lot less red and blue than a single white cob. I’d stick with the 3500’s for the whole light. Hope this helps.

Yeah mate, i converted with the citizen 1212's, the 1812's are really hard to get over here :( i bought from those very people on ebay, they are good :) I'm running 3500K for a full spectrum and easy life lol are those Viparspectra's? If they are unscrew the led board and mount cobs straight to the heat sink (size dependant for amount of cobs) if not ebay do aluminium cut to size pretty cheap :) I've only converted to 70w of cobs but they grow my plants beautifully [emoji108] i wanted to upgrade but the cobs are so powerful my tiny space cant handle the ones ive got [emoji23]

@BigSm0 @cornell584 cheers for your replies guys a couple of good pointers there.
I'd like the 1812 but noticed earlier in the thread they're hard to get here too so I search and these are what come up... I'll be honest I didn't realise the £30 one arn't even 12 12's till having a proper look last night lol. You need a cob shop UK bigsmo haha. yes they are vipers mate 450+600 going to do the 450 first 4 cob I think if I can get my head round it. I'm certainly no techy but I wanna learn lol.
