Grow Mediums The Coco Home Thread -- Calling ALL Coco Growers!!!

Runoff can be very inconsistent especially if hand watering. Depending on where the water hits, how fast it goes through, how much comes out vs how much was put in, and the temperature of the water will all play a role in how much salt it grabs on the way out, which will affect the pH as well. I would only be worrying if the plants don't look good. If they look fine then it is of no importance in my experience so far.

If they don't look good then my first thought would be possibly salt build up, and my second thought would be a root pathogen. That's my 2 cents without any pictures.

Thanks for your reply. I'm still a noob at growing and this is my first coco grow. The thing that caught my attention is older bottom leaves are yellowing turning slightly brown in spots and just falling off. I am growing in a very tight grow cabinet so there isn't much light if any getting down to the very bottom of the plants. I will try to get some pictures tomorrow and post them.

Thanks! I was hoping my CalMag was under control. I use tap water and add a small amount of CalMag to my coco specific nutes that already have some added cal mag in them. Is CalMag toxicity possible?

Nice run of posts, good info, thanks for show and tell and helping out . Have some reps

No prob here it is. Photoperiod DeadHead OG from seed, 7 weeks(long time in that solo cup. I was trying to hold her back for my other ones), 100% coco, Veg+Bloom RO/Soft formula(base nutrient) and +Life(microbial Inoculant). PH 5.8(I let it drift up to 6.0 in my mini rez before I adjust again), Started at .4EC(200ppm) now currently at .9EC(450ppm). Frequent hand feeding. I never let the coco dry out and always feed nutrient. If I don't that's a deal breaker.

Here's what the top of the DeadHead OG looks like

This is a Chocolate Hashberry that I received as a clone. These roots are from day 13 in the solo cup(already put her in a 2gal fabric pot)

Ya she had a rough start :smoking:. I noticed weird things happening when I planted in Roots Organics Coco Palms with a few different seedlings(never buying that again) so I did a small run off test at the time with ro water and coco fresh from the bag. After that I hydrated a brick of botanicare coco and tested that as well.

Here is what I found.

Needless to say I was not happy to see how much salt that "pre rinsed" coco had in it. I immediately went to the extreme and did a complete transplant. As In I washed all that crappy coco and put it and a few others in botanicare coco. It really cool to see that this actually worked.

Right on @Habitual! I'm still new when it comes to auto's but I love coco and I'm always game to talk about it. Might as well post another root shot while I'm here!

@Groff

Ok fam, I have now flushed until the runoff came out at pH 6.1.
In ICMAG I read many saying they had pH 5.8 in pH 6.1-6.2 out so thats what I was going for.

Gona put her back under the CXBs now and give her a few days to recover.
Anything else you can think of that I can do for her?
Today is day 5 for her, you think she still can recover?
I water at around ph5.7-5.8 and I've been getting consistent runoff at around ph5.8-6.0 is this okay or is this something to worry about I'll post a link to my grow journal which is live as we speak, this is my first grow so I don't know if they are going slow or not.

Do I need to wash my Plagron coco premium (it has trichoderma)?
If yes, how? Just sip water 3x times as the size of pot?

Nope you don't need to do anything to it. That stuff has already been prepared for planting. Just plant and go!

It has come to my attention that there is little or hardly any information -- let alone a home thread for Coco. I have been using Promix BX. During my current grow I have lost 3 gorgeous nearly done plants because of Thrips. Never had this problem before and I know it's because of the Promix... Many growers are choosing Coco or Hempys now (who don't want to dive into DWC or just simply can't.)

I know nothing about Coco and would REALLY appreciate some help on how to cross over from Promix (soil less) to Coco... I don't even know where to begin... I found a place locally that has bricks of it for $6.49 that I'm told when I add water will expand to 2 cu. ft. I grow in grow bags... can I still use the grow bags and can anyone give me some more specific info than just "add water." LOL Thanks my friends!!!

:smokebuds:

I myself am making a change over to coco for my next round. Honestly, I would try to get the contact information for the company that makes the coco amf ask them if it has been buffered, what the PH is and if they know what the EC is. I'm gonna try a run in the Burpee seed starting coco that you can get from home depot, I dont know if it has been pre buffered but I went ahead and buffered mine with cal/mag. I learned to do that through YouTube videos. I'll make a review once I get the second round started.
