Some help with drying/curing

State is OK. We have a very flawed legal cannabis system here. And to many growers. I think there’s something like 8500 legal grows. More than all other legal states combined.
Growing the plants I seem to be pretty good at. It’s once they’re harvested I’ve struggled. Low RH. Over drying. Under drying and getting a hay smell.
Wow, that's a lot of grows. I was thinking that CA would lead the list but our leaders have managed to bury it so deep in regulations that people are having a hard time even filling out the paperwork.

Re. drying - I suspect it's like a lot of the other things about growing - you really need to do it before you can get good at it. We can read about it but there's a lot to this. Arguably, this the hardest part of the grow. It's highly subjective; requires using senses of smell, touch, and sight; is highly influenced by RH which can change radically from hour to hour and day to day; and then the fact that this is the shortest part of the grow so there's a lot of pressure to do it right the first time. Yeh, piece of cake…not. You got > 80%. Take the win and you'll do better next time.

May I suggest that, as I am doing here, you might want to partake in part of your harvest accompanied by, perhaps, an adult beverage and just enjoy the fruits of your labor. :smoking:

Brown paper bags have treated me well in similar circumstances. I don't humidify the space I cure in and in the winter its 30-40%. I chop and trim the buds into about golf ball sized nugs. Line the bottom and just leave them in the bag. My last grow they were in the bags for 11 days before I put them in Grove bags and I still had to burp the bags. I've hung branches a few times and they cure waaaay to fast and too dry.
Do u close the brown bag or leave the top open? And do u move them around at all?

Bag tops rolled up closed and I try to hang my bags so they get air all around. I tickle the bottom of the bag to move the buds around. Try not to open the bag too many times because it messes with the environment. I know it's tough but you just have to trust it.

i have a good size drying room that I can keep at 60f and 60rh……but I have this plant that won’t finish, it’s a long story and I hope it will eventually….but I messed up and defoliated almost every leaf. All the big fan leaves are gone and the stress that ensued killed many of the smaller fans.
So basically I have some bud kabobs….and I imagine it will dry very very fast. I was thinking the paper bag process may work to slow down the dry. Maybe hang for a day or two and brown bag after that.
Whatta ya think?
I’m trying to stay positive….at least it’ll be a breeze to trim…

Many of my grows have turned out the same and ended up fine. I've trimmed a couple of fans to expose buds underneath them and just kept going without thinking about it.

I pulled that GSC out of the bags. She’s fluffy. Smells amazing. Did a test smoke and she’s a winner. Tastes like berries. Fruity pebbles. Dead serious. I’ve never had weed that tastes like that. The question is, will it stay.

Parts of it were overdried. The bigger buds were still moist. I figure putting them in a 1/2 jar to cure theyll balance out?

51 grams. I’m happy. She’s fluffy but sticky and stinky. I hope the smell sticks around.

Best advice I’ve received lol. Trimming the GSC took me almost 2 hours and still did a half ass job. I was rushing because it smelled so good and I wanted to get it jarred fast. It was super sticky though and the smell. Amazing. I filled a half gallon jar almost to the top. Pretty excited about that. If the smell stays, even though they’re not the prettiest buds I call it a win.

My moisture meter was supposed to be delivered yesterday. It’s been pushed back to Monday due to the weather. I’m scared to death the GSC I have drying is gonna get to dry. Is it better to trim and jar for cure while it has a little to much moisture, or risk letting it over dry and wait for the meter? I haven’t opened the bags to check on it but plan on doing so tonight.
If the main stems make a potato chip crack sound when you bend them but not break in half. And when the buds pop off instead of bend jar the.. don't wait for the meter if both are happening. You don't want to over dry it either or it can be a lil harsh and lose out on the cure. If buds are popping off and main stems crack when bend jar them and burp daily til your meter arrives. Half hour burp twice daily first week. Second week one burp a day.
