Shaman Genetics seeds, organic soil, fabric pots, and a lot to learn

Alright we got a break in our busy day. HAHA the toddlers nap was my savior today.

After a couple bong swats I ventured to my cypress swamp. There where bears and panthers, and snakes OH MY! Okay, I had a few more swats and I'm silly high.
:bong:.....:zen:......:funny:....:laughcry:.

So yeah, back to the reason we are here. Every time I make my own nutes, I fall more in love with this hobby. Today I introduce my banana flower heart fpj.

The video I posted will give a better explanation of the process.

1) Collect the flower of the tree.
DSCN0916[1].JPG

2) Get glass container.
DSCN0917[1].JPG

3) Start peeling the outer leaves, exposing the small flowers inside.
DSCN0918[1].JPG DSCN0919[1].JPG

4) take off about 7-9 layers. The layers will become solid white, losing all the purple color.
DSCN0920[1].JPG

5) I split it down the center, top to bottom. I then slice it like an onion. I end up with 1/4" x 1" strips.
DSCN0923[1].JPG

6) Just for giggles, I added a green nanner this time. They only real difference in a green, and yellow nanner is the starches turn into to sugar in a ripe fruit. They are still high in potassium.
DSCN0924[1].JPG

7) This is the mix before and after sugar.
DSCN0925[1].JPG DSCN0926[1].JPG

To be continued.

8) This is about 2 minutes into mixing. You can see that the sugar is already wet.
DSCN0928[1].JPG

9) Cover it with a layer of the sugar.
DSCN0929[1].JPG

10) I just tie a tank top around the top. There is a gas exchange that happens, so don't seal it off. I doesn't stink though, so lose fabric will do.
DSCN0930[1].JPG

From there just let it sit for about a week. Even just after an hour it is sitting in liquid. I put it on my pourch, out of direct sunlight. You may notice after a few days, some crystals on top will fade to white, but not dissolve. I don't know why, but it just does here, and there.

When it is finished, I flip the whole jar upside down on a strainer. I'll let it sit for 1-2 hours, no set dip. This first drip is normally a golden brown color, and transparent. Much like honey. It is also thick, but thinner than honey. This portion is what I like to use for sprays, it is very clean. You can do anything for a 50/50 to a 10/90 nute/water mix. I tend to make them on the lighter side, 10-30% nutes.

From there I will fill the container with ~30% water, and swish it around the jar. The plant material is still in there too. After a few swishes, I will agitate the plant material, and loosen up anything I can. This will turn the water a darker brown (tea) if you are using weeds, not normally with the bananas. Then just strain it all, and give the plant materials a good squeeze. I don't like to spray this as I feel the soil microbes can handle it better. I have no proof of that, its just my thought process.

Time to go get ready for the next trick or treat event. GO GO GADGET SUGAR RUSH!!!! Go cut something down and shove it in some brown sugar. Just about anything will work. 2 rules of thumb I try to follow when collecting materials are...

1) Try to get the most amount of new growth as you can.
2) Look for plants that have not seeded yet. They will be less nutrient than a fresher plant.

Have fun guys.

This mornings research has not really got anywhere yet. I'm only an hour in, but not getting many leads. I also sampled the fresh batch, and that could be the problem. No coffee? I'll be right back.

Whew... Well, the bud is good. Taste like a green wet bud, yay for hay. High is on point though. Relieves the pain in my back from osteoarthritis, puts anxieties at bay, and makes me feel pretty social. Being a full time father, and on the go, it is just what I need. I wish I had more of these seeds, it would make a great staple in the garden.

So my research for today is about banana leaves. I want to know what micro nutrients I can utilize. I already shred up some of the dead leaves and mix it in my mulch. That is more for the idea of having a mixture of items that what they can give. I have around 20 trees, plus we buy them (organic, local farmer) for my son who loves them. I have a lot of nanner byproduct here.

As far as green bananas are concerned. The only real difference I can find is that a green banana is high in starches. They will turn in to sugars when it turns yellow. Micro nutrients are said to be with in %10 +/-.
This is all info I have found in the past. Also why you will see me using them a lot.

So as stated, todays info quest is on the leaves of the tree.

They are used in several cultures for food. Just about any reason you would use foil to cook with can be substituted for the nanner leaf. As nutrition is concerned it contains a lot of polyphenols which have antioxidant properties, so in a way consuming banana leaf maybe as healthy as consuming tea. They are also water proof, and a great option for thatch roofs. Some cultures even use them to make fences around the property.

So that concludes class for the morning.
Thanks you for participating in "Nanners; the impact on diets, and cultures 101"

Upon further research, 102 may be offered this afternoon. Time to smoke another.

I didn't get to the rest of my research today. We spent most of the day cleaning house. :grrr1:

I ended up making a garlic and rosemary tea. It is bubbling N brewing now. I was not able to get the DE, and am hoping this will provide temporary help. I will be using this as a foliage spray tomorrow. The rosemary was home grown, and dried. I toasted it in a skillet over medium heat. Just mix them for about 2 minutes. This is a cooking trick I do all the time. It pulls the oils to the surface of the spice. You can do this with nuts too.

I used about 1/2 a hand of rosemary, and 7 cloves of garlic. Ran them through the food processor for about a minute. I added this to my gravity feeder, and ran the air to it. I'll let this run over night.
DSCN0942[1].JPG DSCN0941[1].JPG DSCN0943[1].JPG

I also added a handful of worms to the older auto. I snapped a few pics, but they are hard to see.
DSCN0945[1].JPG

The 2 new autos have both cracked, and popped out a tap root. I used a pot that about 3/4 a gallon. The 1 gal pots are a bit to wide for the micro cab. 65-70 days and I shall have some tasty treats.

Besides growing for myself, some of this will be for the old fart. It is my grow, but he has provided me with lots of supplies. The end of the year he will be retiring, and I plan on giving him a lil treat. I am saving a gram from all three of my current harvest, and giving him some of every plant growing now. That should give him 8 different strains in total if they all go female. A quarter of schwag last him about 4-5 months, so this should make him happy. He stopped smoking a few months ago, but is eager to partake again.

So I'm thinking about asking this thread to be moved to the organics section. I have a good amount of stuff going on in here, and in the grand scheme of things, the outdoor autos are a not in the spot light. I would like the thread to pertain more to how I organically grow indoor, and outdoor.

The 3 outside are still looking good in general.DSCN0950[1].JPG Today I will give them some epsom salt and molasses drench. I plan on going very light on the epsom, I'm not 100% sure how the worms will react. Google here I come.

The older sis has growth on her inter nods now. I also don't see any new caterpillar damage. Ill have to go check my other journal on how old she is, but I suspect to see lady parts soon. The darker center is the vermicompost from placing the worms there. I didn't see a need to separate the worms. I may give her some N tonight, first I want to see a bit more of the new leaves come out.
DSCN0951[1].JPG

Sis #2 has more visiable damage, but I don't think it is new. The last caterpillar was eating the new growth, and it is just growing out now. You can still see the chew pattern in the middle. She other wise is still green and happy.
DSCN0952[1].JPG

Sis #3 has had the best luck with the caterpillars. She has no visible damage. Just pretty green leaves.
DSCN0953[1].JPG

My rosemary and garlic tea is finished. Man does it smell good. I almost wish I put some chicken, and balsamic vinegar in there with it. I forgot to mention that I added a few flakes of crushed red pepper. I am hoping some of the capsaicin will suspend in the mix too.

After ~12 of bubbling I strained it, and will be adding to it some aloe water to make a quart total solution. Around sun up, and down I will give the plants a lite spraying.
DSCN0956[1].JPG DSCN0958[1].JPG DSCN0959[1].JPG.

I am still getting the DE. It is at my moms place, and I just need to go get it. Organics run in the family here. I am also hoping to order some neem oil this week. I have not had any bug problems till now, so I was not really prepared. Did indoors spoil me, or is it just a naive new grower, being naive? Probably the later.
:headbang:

Now for the rest of the garden. In total I have 5 autos, and 1 photo going, all different strains.

The Amnseia is responding to the LST like a champ. I was able to go from straight up, to almost flat on the pot in 3 adjustments. Albeit she is rather soft, her trunk is turning in to hard wood. This morning I made a second tie down point. I plan on basically "stitching" her to the edge of the pot. I hope I am able to get at least 1/2 around before the 2 tops need to be split. Currently I am thinking about leading 1 top back to the center, and the other to continue around the pot. I'm sure that will change when it gets to big, and I go "ahhhh, well, idk...."

DSCN0948[1].JPG

Neither Azure Rocket, or Crazy Ape have broken soil yet. I didn't expect it, maybe tonight or tomorrow morning. After placing the seed, I took a dental pick and ruffled the top 3" of soil. I left about a 1/2" radius of undisturbed soil for the seed, making a moat around it. The endo mycos I ordered should be here in the next 6 hours. I wanted to be able to get them to the root zone. I plan on going a bit heave handed as I expect a lot of them to not survive this method. From my understanding if the myco does not make contact with a root with in a few days it will die off. So this is a bit of a crap shoot. I am confident that some will make it, and improve the plant health overall. I also left some extra room on top of the pot for mulch, and soil. So far 3/3 auto had a big stretch during the very start. These will have a more intense light though.

This pic doesn't show much of them, but the cab is loaded. I took this picture a couple hours ago. The amnesia is almost pointing straight up again. I need to cut some 2x4 block and raise her a bit. She should have enough leaves now to just soak all the LED goodness up.
DSCN0949[1].JPG

I did find a skeeter in the micro cab this morning. It was pretty funny. My circulation system is over powered for the cab size, and all he could do is sit in the auto pot.. Every attempt to fly just ended up in it rolling around the pot.

I think I'll be taking the lil one to the park this morning. That sounds like a good way to start a day. Take care.

Woah! Great information!
I got acess to banana palm trees at my dad's place. Im totally going after the banana flower! Look at those nutrients!

Thank you so much for sharing such a precious recipe!

I'm glad you made it to the show. I'm still a new grower, but I research organic gardening every day. I'll try to post how I do what I learn. If you ever have any questions please ask. I'd be happy to help out. Happy growing.

Okay I got the thread moved to the organics forum. Thank you Mr/Mrs admin. :d5: Sorry I'm not sure who did it.

I'm sitting here watching Hannibal the series... On season 2, episode 1 @ 4:27ish... Lector serves a sushi like dish to a fed that is garnished with what looks like a nice indica leaf, or 5. Crooked ass cop just said it looked good. (it did look good) I think the show would be better if it was just named after someone else. This is not the Lector I grew up to, its good though.

I adjusted the amnesia again. I'll give her a few more days to grow out before the next tie down. She is more or less flat on the pot. If she grows how I'm thinking, I should have a small bush with a good amount of small colas. I'm trying to keep the "top" as low as I can to encourage hormones to shift around.:eyebrows:

I had a look at a sun tracker today. It actually sucked worse than I thought it would. Today is 11h 01m of sun. The end of the month is 10h 28m... Its okay though. The current idea is to become self sustained, perfection will come later.

When ever the mail man graces me with his presence, I will post a pic of the new treats. Assuming that is what he brings. (cause his ass is getting stalked if not. I see you :cuss:Mr. post man.).

You're one of a kind, dude! I got my eyes sticked at your journal!

Haha I guess we're on the same boat, about defending ourselves some smoke.

Mind you not about the short days... I beem on the same circunstance as my garden has got a terrible positioning to maintain its "stealthness".

In the end it doesn't matter. Its all a great experience... and as long as you harvest nice plants without pests. It was very much worth the investiment of time!

What screwed my last grow was the high temps and humidity and my low maintenance. :-/ gave me the crappiest smoke ever. Hopefully I harvested some seeds.

:p

Had to learn my lesson... I guess.
