Mephisto Genetics Seymourbud's Soapbox

Thanks for the info on 3BOG @water farm , I think I mentioned that she is always a bit droopy. Looks as though I may be over fertilizing her. I am going to cut her ppm from current 610 down to ~400 and see if she perks up. Hopefully that will do the trick!

The Sweet & Sour replacement seed has grown enough in her double solo cup to have her tap root peaking out the bottom on day 6. So the S&S and the solo cup was moved to the final 3 gallon airpot yesterday, and fertilized with 10 ounces of 1.5MC feed water. She seems a bit more vigorous in her early stages then all the other Mephisto's going right now with the exception of the White Crack. White Crack showed some early flowering pistils yesterday, day 23. Feeding later today, pictures this weekend or the beginning of next week.

I will complete the Breeding cabinet ventilation/filter tomorrow, then be good to go. Wifey told me that the basement starting to smell, so it is just in time to get this finished.

Preliminary looks of the (4) Stone Dragons shows that I might have 2 males and 2 females. Really happy with this if that is what it proves to be. Going to start a Blue Toof Special and 24 Carat as soon as next week. In addition to creating a bunch of Stone Dragons to work through, I am also going to use the SD pollen on a BTS (Blue Stone Toof) and the 24 Carat (Gold Stone Toof).

As of this morning, the 3 Bears OG was still not in flower, but the Ghost Toof and White Crack definitely are, and their beginning flowering date has been noted. Hoping that the addition of Greenleaf BE @1gr/gallon will do the trick to kickstart flowering. It seems to have worked on WC, GT, and the SD's.

And lastly, a new order arrived from Mephisto. Many thanks to @stan_mephisto for hooking me up with some 24 Carat and 4 Assed Monkey as freebies. Meph-head for life right here. Later.

Looks really good in here, currently curious about how ur ghost Toof turns out, I'm floored by mine even the 8 beans she gave me, if the do the same as her then I'll be happy just for fun. But I also am sitting on about 40 some of them. She makes big fat dense colas, most were 7" long by 2-3" wide and her main was a donkey D of a cola for an auto.

Hey now, been a while since i did an update. Ran into a couple of issues, but after resolving them, I have to say they were all "driver errors" that culminated into a Hot Mess, literally. So the start of the problems occurred when I returned from vacation at the end of December, I needed soil so I went to my local to pick some up. He had a newer version of the soil, and he thought it might be to hot for seedlings, but I took it anyways. About 20 days into the grow, I started to notice some leaf curling and really dark leaves, I knew it must be nitrogen toxicity, but I thought that 20 days (actually 23 or 24 days since I make the pots a couple of days early to wet them and warm them before I transplant) should have been enough time for the little bit of vermipost (?) in the soil to have worn off. So I decided to wait another week. After 5 more days things seem to be getting worse. Then I discovered in my haste to clean up the grow area and reduce footprint, I had put both versions of MegaCrop together in the same container, version 1 in the bottom and version 2 on top. And I was using the recipes that had been used with v1 of MC with the top of the container which was v2. V2 of MC seems to be a bit more concentrated, and the need for additional PK and maybe even CalMag seems unnecessary.

So I began from the beginning making solutions and testing ph and ppm of everything I made rather then relying on what had worked for me only several months before. I think my plants have turned the corner, finally. They certainly don't look great, but they appear to have gotten a better shade of green while most of the clawing has now gone away. The downside to all this is that I believe that the time it took to figure this out will definitely affect final numbers, but I am still hopeful for a quality harvest if not a quantity harvest.

Day 38 - So enough of the sad backstory, here is where we are at today. There are 5 plants in the main cabinet. They are:
White Crack - 21" tall
Ghost Toof - 15" tall
3 Bears OG - 15" tall and about the same wide.
Sweet and Sour - Day 21 6.5" tall - Not affected by the mishap above as she was a replacement seed when Sour Hound was culled.
Stone Dragon - 11" tall - The only female out of 4 seeds planted. The other 3 males are in the breeding cabinet awaiting the spew of pollen.

So the MegaCrop recipe I am now using is 1 gallon RO water, 2 grams of MC v2.0 + 1.5 grams of Sweet Candy. Mostly phed to 6.4 - 6.6. I have been shooting for 500ppm. Most readings have been between 489 and 533. I am going to start adding 1.5ml of GH CaliMagic as the White Crack is starting to show some CalMag deficiency.

So my final thoughts on this are that it might not have been this bad if the varieties I chose had been different. Of the 10-15 Mephisto strains I have run, only a couple have shown a low tolerance to higher ppm of nutes, most have taken and continued on without issue. Murphy's Law I guess, if something can go wrong, it will go wrong.

Now to pictures...

Just a quick update on my pollen chucking...

So the pollen sacs are starting to open and drop pollen from the 3 Stone Dragon males in the breeding cabinet. I have begun to collect pollen from each plant and keep them separated. Not sure I will get enough from each of them singularly, so I was thinking after I polleninate the female [HASHTAG]#1[/HASHTAG] with the male I have chosen, then I would just collect and store the remainder of the pollen from the 3 males and keep it all in the same vial? Is this a bad idea? I know I will have a mix of traits from each of the males, but at this point their smell and uniformity of growth, and branching are very identical for two of them ([HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] and [HASHTAG]#4[/HASHTAG]), while the [HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG] male is 3-4" taller. Doesn't appear to be a discernible difference other then the height of [HASHTAG]#3[/HASHTAG]. Puffs of pollen on the leaves right now as I would say only 3-5% of the sacs have opened. I would like to free the cabinet up for the next round of plants, Mephisto females that will be spewed in Stone Dragon pollen, by the beginning of March.

I am thinking of using 3 smallish females for the pollen chucking; Gold Glue, Blue Toof Special, and 24 Carat. These will be hit with the Stone Dragon pollen to create my first 3 crosses. Pictures in a couple of days...
