Extraction Say NO to the ARDENT LIFT DECARBOXYLATOR!!!! Say yes to sous vide instead and save your money

F'ing great. I'm a little grumpy losing 1.5g or rosin. I might just have to eat a chocolate earlier than I usually do tonight. Get a glow on and temper the frustration.

So what do we have?
  1. The Lift is too expensive for us cheap guys who don't like to part with money on such things.
  2. The sous vide method doesn't release CO2 so its doesn't decarb. But I've read blogs, reddit posts etc that is does decarb. that can be taken with a big grain of salt.
  3. The oven method isn't very precise, it smells etc.
  4. The heated plates and beaker method is probably best, but I don't love it. I might just have to learn to love it though. Or cough up for the Lift. Good thing I didn't actually buy a sous vide for testing for decarb.
Lunarman, why do you keep saying 300? They have 2 models 210v and 220v international. Not sure what you use in Canada, but 210v is $240cad 220v is $250cad. Luckily for us in the U.S. it's only $180 just use canna30 to get $30 off. That $120 less than your saying for u.s. and $50-$60 for Canadian. I know it's a little more for you guys but you're giving inaccurate prices. At 300 I would have not bought, i would have waited for price to drop or a competitor. But 180 almost half of what you're saying and that may mislead someone. Even the 50-60 may make someone go for it. I'm sure once you go legal there will be a few to pick from at better price. Not hatin', just sayin' lol. I think only options left are you need to get your decarb down, or get a lift. I would have liked not to spent 180.00 but my decarb has been hit or miss and to much bud wasted. I have decarbed 2+ oz's over the last day all I did was put it in and hit button. Now with that said I haven't tried any yet was going to do some tonight and eat in morning. Not sure how much to eat tho, never just ate the bud. I want to know if it worked, smells like it did lol. I saw somewhere a range of .2-5g but no idea where my tolerance falls. If anyone has a starting point would love to hear. I don't like to tell anyone how to spend their money, but if this thing works as well as folks have said I think its worth the price. Just answer this, how much bud/rosin whatever using have you wasted decarbing wrong? You say your to cheap but I know I have lost more than 180 messing up my decarb. I may not be the best at decarbing but I know the definition of insanity. In the end I think I will save more money and effort with the lift.

That's a nice setup @Quirk

Looks like you're doing more than just "dabbling" in extracts.

So you either do Rosin presses and decarb it if required in the Ardent. Or you do alcohol extracts for tincture and use the source turbo extractor and then decarb too? Is that basically what you're doing?
@lunarman - I press my buds as soon as they are dry. I was doing a decarb, then pressing, but my yields were half as much so I decarb after pressing. I also decarb my pressed "pucks" to activate for ingestion. For tincture I use 13-15 gr. decarbed bud ( what the Nova/Lift holds) to 8oz. Everclear. After decarb the bud get stuffed into a 250 micron MaxLoom which gets stuffed open end first into a second bag. This way I don't strain or filter nada. The bud goes into a pint mason jar, everclear into another pint mason jar and both into the freezer. After 24hr. I combine and shake vigorously 2 minutes, replace in freezer laying jar on it's side. I do this 4-5 more times throughout the day. Then out of the freezer, I pull the bag up and suspend across mouth of jar with thin metal skewer and let drip dry in a dark cupboard for 1 day. Then I use the Source to reduce to 4oz. In that 4oz. I dissolve 1 gr. decarbed rosin to " kick it up a notch". So every night, one hour before bedtime, 2ml tincture and 1 gram of the stripped material and or pressed "pucks" into a cup of peach yogurt and I have the most restful sleep I've had in years. No sleep apnea, no getting up 4-5 times to urinate, no tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. I wake rested and relaxed with no aches and pains. This has been a game changer for this old fart.

well thats different than saying its not hot enough. and that bit about co2 could be a herring too.
Well I don't have the resources to test that co2 theory so mabe a herring? As to the temperature I know for a fact that 252°F for 27 minutes works to decarb my rosin/cocoa butter ---- Ooh la la I get baked.

@Mcdee is right on the price on the website is $210. minus a coupon plus shipping and tax. I don't know where I got $300? I did notice something when looking at the buy it page; to buy you need a medical card in MMJ states or live in a legal state and be of age? I don't know how well they adhere to that?

If you did not dry out the bud by decarbing first it might work? The rosin yield will suffer if it gets much below 58% moisture content. The biggest problem IMHO is the lost terpenes = lost flavor. The way I make my chocolates they retain a lot of flavor.

The Ardent Lift is $300 Canadian from Canadian retailers. No discount that I can find yet. If I can get it for $200 Canadian I would be interested in it. If I order from the US then I'll end up paying at least $70 Cnd in shipping and possibly more on top with duty, probably putting it right back up to $300 Cnd even after the good deal in the US with a discount.

A sous vide machine is $100 to $150 Canadian. Seems like a no brainer to me cost wise.

From what I saw it says free shipping. I didn't go through the whole purchase process for international shipping but chech out their site. From what I saw its looks free. You can pay for faster delivery but only charge I saw for shipping. I got slow took 11 days from ordering.

There is apparently 2 companies they're the same tho. 1 ships to only legal states and Canada. The other ships to anyone. Something with the fact that its only for decarbing cannabis so in non legal states has to do with "covering their ass". @Simplicio is the 1 who told me that there 1 company split into 2. Maybe he can explain in better detail why. When I looked up ardent I got the the site that only ships to legal, but when I looked up lift decarboxylator I got to the site that ships world wide. Hope that helps.

Quick question for those pressing to make rosin for edibles....

Has anyone tried doing the decarb first, when it's still plant matter and then pressing it? Would it matter when in the process it happens as far as the end result goes?

I'm wondering because regarding the rosin leaking out of the silicone container, if you could decarb as flower you could just put the plant material directly into the vacuum bag and straight in the sous vide.

Just curious. :chimp:

I pressed some decarbed bud for medables. There was definitely a lack of smell and taste, it came out darker too. The heat during pressing evaporates the terpenes and flavonoids that have already been heated up during decarb.
I don't know if it affected the effect, medables always put me to sleep and they did do that!
But, there was no smell or canna taste to the cookies I made and that may be a plus for some.

well this didn't go well at all. the silicon container leaked rosin and it's stuck to the plastic bag and impossible to retrieve now. lost 1.5g pretty much. unless I can find a way to heat up the plastic so the rosin is runny enough to retrieve. Or maybe freeze it.

I need a leak proof container for this to work. Anyone know if any leak proof silicon containers?

Darn! I was hoping this would work for you.
Maybe if you freeze it you can save it.

Was thinking about this and running some searches and spotted that there is an outfit called Stasher that makes a silicone bag that's reusable and can be put directly into a sous vide pot, microwave, etc..etc...

I dunno, though...more I think about it, I don't know that it wouldn't be too much of a pain in the butt to get the rosin back out of the bag, even if it's not sticking to the silicone sides.

Fascinating and I'm encouraged to read about someone who found a way to use this to get a solid sleep. That is my main goal with what I do. I'm not where you are yet. Still using zoplicon a script sleeping pill. But I reduced from the 7.5mg to 5mg a couple of weeks ago at my doctors suggestion. And that happened to coincide with me discovering rosin and the power it brings to the table. I used to make regular infused coco oil and whatever indica I could get and that really did nothing for me. Rosin chocolate edibles is really making a difference and I feel like I'm finally going in the right direction with weed as a med for insomnia or sleep disorder. Also being able to grow my own and experiment with different strains is a real plus.
