Extraction Say NO to the ARDENT LIFT DECARBOXYLATOR!!!! Say yes to sous vide instead and save your money

For $45 delivered I would think that this would work as a hot plate to decarb in a small beaker. cheap and effective.

But I already have the rosin press plates with precision heat control. so this wouldn't add any value right?

I'm trying to avoid using beakers etc and heated plates and insta read thermometers like you do in your vid. I did that twice and the second time I struggled with a steady temp. I would prefer to have a closed loop system like the Ardent Lift decbarb box or a sous vide water bath.

Water bath does not get hot enough and you need a sealed container which is counter productive to getting the co2 out. Pressure will prevent decarbing.

I am cheap, I mean really cheap and $300 for a Lift is way too much IMHO.

My suggestion is for people that do not have other means to decarb. I get consistently good results with the little beaker on my bottom press plate and this is as close as you can get - cheap!

F'ing great. I'm a little grumpy losing 1.5g or rosin. I might just have to eat a chocolate earlier than I usually do tonight. Get a glow on and temper the frustration.

So what do we have?
  1. The Lift is too expensive for us cheap guys who don't like to part with money on such things.
  2. The sous vide method doesn't release CO2 so its doesn't decarb. But I've read blogs, reddit posts etc that is does decarb. that can be taken with a big grain of salt.
  3. The oven method isn't very precise, it smells etc.
  4. The heated plates and beaker method is probably best, but I don't love it. I might just have to learn to love it though. Or cough up for the Lift. Good thing I didn't actually buy a sous vide for testing for decarb.

One more thing. Why do you say it does get hot enough? From what I read just increase duration if temp is lower. 210F for 1 hour 40 minutes.

Did I mention that besides cheap I am not that patient to wait a couple of hours for decarb. :hurry:.

well thats different than saying its not hot enough. and that bit about co2 could be a herring too.

Quick question for those pressing to make rosin for edibles....

Has anyone tried doing the decarb first, when it's still plant matter and then pressing it? Would it matter when in the process it happens as far as the end result goes?

I'm wondering because regarding the rosin leaking out of the silicone container, if you could decarb as flower you could just put the plant material directly into the vacuum bag and straight in the sous vide.

Just curious. :chimp:

I might try that sometime. I have only decarb'd plant material in the oven and it gets a bit toasty and dry. That might not be ideal to squish for rosin. Might affect the flavor of the rosin is the plant material was cooked beforehand.

I'm pretty sure I will have a good workaround for the leak and that won't be a problem any more.

I see you got the newvape plates and controller and did an unboxing thread. Cool stuff. I got the cheapest plates they have and the quad controller and heaters from newvape. Great pricing and options too. They have so many different plates available compared to any other vendor. That was a couple of years ago. Is everything still working good?

Well, it mostly sits in the corner these days. Longing for the day that I'm able to start up the growing again. Thought a time or two about picking up some flower from the rec store just to press it, probably ought to do so in the next few weeks before I head out of state. Last time I fired it up it worked great, though. Pretty simple devices, really, so not a lot to go wrong with 'em (knock on wood). :smoking:
