New Grower Round Two - Continuing The Journey

Sorry for such long silence. Family issues have kept me from starting my second round. I am popping a toof decay seed (finally) and am hoping for a good fun grow.

how are the mephisto beans growing for you?

Good to see you. My mephisto are less than a week old, but doing well. Im going to be starting a journal for them soon.

Your baby looks healthy.. Heres to a greay grow!:greenthumb:

The hardest thing for me to do here is convince someone new, who grows in soil to ADD NOTHING!!! Good, organic soil NEEDS nothing. I've complete grows with nothing more than a bag of organic soil, no additonal nutrients. But people see these guys and girls using 52 bottles of SPECIAL SECRET SAUCE........... so they run out and buy $300 worth of uselss crap to add to their soil........... and wonder why their entire grow is a disaster...lol! You can't learn to fly a plane by jumping in the cockpit and taking off, you have to spend time learning how first. Same with growing. Start simple, and if you feel the need to get fancy, go for it, once you have and inkling what your doing.

And question everything!! The gardening world is full of myths that can and will hold you back from becoming an good gardener!

Well said sir... I look forward to learning enough to not have to use anything but soil and water. Even to overcome the calmag def from led lighting.

I've come to believe that the so called LED Cal/Mag connection is something to do with non-organic nutrients. I've grown easily a couple hundred plants now, in organic soil under LED lights. I NEVER have a cal/mag issue. I have to use RO water. I add 90-120ppms of cal/mag to my water and that has always been plenty. If you use tap-water, filter it with a GOOD filter and add 50 ppms of cal/mag. With what is already in the water, you'll have no problems, I've tested using water I brought home from a friend's house.

What are you growing? We should have had a grow off with a few of us newer growers.

My last one was small but no calmag issues so I agree!
and if you have well water, ALWAYS check ph, every time! Mine recently spiked to 8.4!!
So far everything has been almost spot on. I do use my pen to test it and it'd always right in the range. How did yours spike? Water softener?

On the issue of water source and pH, my municipal water has been all over the place this summer, as high as 8.5 and as low as 5...

Do these guys just mix it up to purposely mess with growers or is there really no oversight in it. Conspiracy theory time :)

I am learning ppm now. Was just watching ph. I use rainwater and it tests around 6.0-6.5. Which i dont fully understand. Thanks for the info..

Looking good miss, i am guessing this can all get quite anxious when your putting all your efforts into one or two plants i am used to planting lots for lets say tomatoes and then culling and keeping the ones i think are the stars ,,,,what size pot is that, the ones I ordered are 3 litre which are one gallon I think, my thinking being i could fit at least two if not three into the space I am considering using(other reasons as well but perhaps I am starting to over think this), so have one going and at week 4,5 start another one, I am slowly putting together my master plan into place, ,i better show it to the seeds lmao,
PH,calmag, ppm are not things I have actually considered up until this point I think I will wing it in regards to calmag, ppm and see what problems arise I will be using good old rainwater, biobizz soil and nutes following the dosages which mephisto used in a grow I read through( surprising very little) so perhaps a pH tool is needed ,OK i will stop waffling on ,hope your well and enjoying the weekend, just read through your first grow journal ,you certainly was in a battle but well done for sticking it out ,your right learnt lots ,thankyou for sharing
