New Grower Praying I don't mess up my 1st grow

Hey Viper. Thanks for stopping by. I'll have to go check out your grow. I'm just setup in a small basement room now. If my harvest turns out good I may be able to upgrade a little bit. The temps in my room are staying on the high end around 79-85 so I'm kind of afraid to add a tent. I made a poor mans box out of cardboard and mylar emergency blankets and the temps went up to 83-86 with 3 fans in the room and the door open so I'm not sure a real tent is such a good idea.

Those temps are alot like mine, it is starting to "cool off" a little bit here in my region, and what I mean by cool off is "heat index isn't hitting 106".Funny thing is even though it was blazing hot outside my basement mostly stayed at an even and steady 81 degrees F...If I turned my little 150w HPS on and had the 4 or 5 small watt cfl's on it would rise up to about 88 degrees.

Not sure about you but I have really high humidity and since Im no expert or even really beginner grower, Im pretty sure high humidity is bad during the flowering stage. My humidity usually stays at no lower than 69, and I have seen it as high as 85 but that was because huge rainstorm and my basement was leaking in water...not good lol...but my humidity does pretty much stay between 70 - 80 always. I found by running a small heater I could lower the humidity pretty easy but the temp would have to go beyond 88 degrees using the heater to get my humidity level down to about 67-68.....i dont know man, it's always something......but it's always fun and the enjoyment of growing I think is very rewarding.

High humidity is extremely bad during flower it is how you get bud rot. If your humidity is between 70-80 you need to bring that down especially during flower. Instead of a heater you need a dehumidifier because if you use the heater and your temps rise it's trading one problem for another. Both the heat and humidity will cause reduced yields and unneeded stress to your plants.

I completely understand what you are saying and agree. I do need a humidifier for sure but in the environment I am growing in (basement) Im not real certain what to expect when the weather patterns change during the next 30-45 days, what I mean more clearly is I might suffer some "heating" loss so the little heater might really become beneficial to me so I can keep my temps around 75-80..but I agree with needing a humidifier for this end of the summer heat when running a small heater doesnt make much sense just to lower humidity. At the very very very worst case scenario I would be able to "convert" a closet that is already setup with venting that is much better environment as far as humidity goes. Do you think 40% is an acceptable level of humidity for auto northern lights, or should it be even lower? What would be the optimal humidity range for an autoflower during flowering stage?

I understand what you have going on now. During flower 40 percent is just about perfect you can even go to lower in the last two weeks of flowering down to 30 percent to induce more resin production. I usually only have the ability to keep mine at 55-58 during flower and have never had a problem.

Well I checked the potatoes and they are brown and absent of any bugs at all. I still see a couple moving on the sand though. My yellow sticky traps only have 3 gnats on them. I wish I had a really good camera with nice zoom on it. I'm going to see if I can borrow one.
Sorry it didn't work out for you. It was more of a test, to see, if in fact, they were fungus gnats. I'm not sure what, in the potato, attracts the larvae, sugar, or moisture...? It worked for me, to confirm, gnats. Good luck man. The, if you are keeping them in somewhat control, without getting yellow stickies full, I wouldn't worry to much. It may stress them out, it may effect yield. You should still get a nice harvest, if all else is A-okay.

That 55-58 seems like a good target for me to aim for also. Since my first grow im just not sure what weather change is really gonna do yet, but i do plan on spending the next couple weeks looking for a decent cheap humidifier. It wont hurt, plus i have option to use both if i really really had to but i dont think weather change will be drastic enough to change my basement ewnvironment to much. Just alot of unknowns right now. But like i said in other post I do have those 2 closets I could use if I had to....my plants havent sprouted yet,,hopefully tommorrow or next day..I planted them really really late Saturday,,technically Sunday very early morning if want to be specific, so Im hoping they make an appearance real soon..but that closet might be a prime flowering chamber because i didnt see the humidity go above 40 once,,,but probably because the heat was 95+ lol...heat been pretty brutal my parts this year,,Im ready for Fall.

My plants seem to be healthy so I dont think the couple bugs I've seen are doing any damage. I hope anyway. I've tried some LST by bending them all with pipe cleaners attached to the pot sides so we'll see how that goes. Since I did that yesterday the tiny branches have gotten much bigger with the light from 2 leds. I'll post some pics in a couple days once they don't look so raggedy.

Sweet. I use pipe cleaners as well, for training.
Glad to hear things are looking up!

Raggedy pics are great too! It's especially good for beginners to see.. All plants in training get fussy looking

Heres a few pics. I decided to unbind the plants until they get a little taller. I'll give them 1 more week and then try LST.

The short stature of these plants has me a bit worried. Hopefully they start to grow more within the next week. I wonder if I move the CFL's and just hit them with the 2 300w LED's would that help them stretch a little bit?
