Indoor Olderfart back at it again.

Jan. 7, and more mischief been afoot.
  • Time for an update. First, the initial weigh in of the plants harvested so far now that the bud is dry. First up, the DMK bud from the three pot:
    IMG_1409.JPG

Next up, the Seedsman 30:1 CBD Kush:
    IMG_1410.JPG

Not the most productive solo I have done, but not bad considering that the CBD bud tends to be less dense than some. The 147g of DMK is about two liters of bud, but only 147g. Interestingly, the bud structure and aroma of the DMK and the 30:1 seem more or less identical to me. The Seedsman version might be a bit lankier and taller, but not a lot of difference. The two are really similar, so anyone looking for an indica leaning all CBD strain but not able to get the Dinamed version would likely be very happy with the Seedsman one.

Last up, the 24C x PK cross:
    IMG_1411.JPG

Maybe my least productive solo yet... In my defense, I was distracted by the need to get plants out of the drobe, so she may have been a bit of an early chop. Most likely, earlier screwups on my part. The good news is that the bud is really nice. Very pleasant flavor even before the cure has done much, and a real serious indica with potential for sleep affect.

I also pulled 40g and 20g off the failed reversals of DG and WDA, but no pics. Still not sure about what I will do with the bud.

So, on to the current gang of girls. The 'drobe in total (minus the CQ solo, about which more later):

    IMG_1412.JPG

Front left, WDA at Day 58; front right, DG at Day 58; middle, BMxSH full sized pot at Day 46 ; rear left, Stone's Dragon three-pot at Day 53; rear center, BMxSH solo at Day 46; and last, rear right, Anvil at Day 59.

And some overhead shots of the 'drobe queens:

    WDA:
    IMG_1413.JPG

This girl is on track to be my most productive single plant yet. Not likely a pounder, but the jury is out. She is still stretching and packing on the bud.

    DG:
    IMG_1414.JPG

She is actually getting pretty close. I haven't done a trich check yet, but I can tell... I think... Also, she is only two days short of Mephisto's estimated time.

    BMxSH large pot:
    IMG_1415.JPG

This is a single plant, and will also be a nice producer if I manage to keep things on track.

    Stone's Dragon three pot:
    IMG_1416.JPG

In theory, there are some seeds in there, 24Cx Stone's Dragon #6 Auto Fem, as well as Stone's Dragon #6 Auto Reg. If I get seeds from the 24C cross, that will be from pollen stored frozen for a year.

    BMxSH solo:
    IMG_1417.JPG

She ain't big, but there will be bud.
    Anvil:
    IMG_1418.JPG

Miss Anvil is the slowest of the bunch, still stretching and pouring on the pistils. She might be a pretty big girl yet.

Now then, I did mention the CQ solo earlier. It was missing from the 'drobe because she was being photoed for trich check. Here she is at 69, about a week past the Mephisto timing estimate:
    cq solo jan 7.jpg

She is going to be one of the better solos I have harvested. Did I mention harvest? Well peeps, its complicated, but I think she is done:
    cq cola2 jan 7.jpg

The damndest combination of clear, heavy amber, cloudy, white pistils, shrivelled brown pistils. Anyway, I need space and methinks the chop is imminent. Maybe tonite. I'll think on it while I eat.

Speaking of which, dinner is calling.

    Happy growing peeps. :pighug::biggrin:

Fertigation lessons learned this grow, pollen collection complete
  • In my big pots, my irrigation rings did not produce sufficiently even distribution of nutrient mix. As a result, in most pots symptoms like clawing and tip burn were inconsistent even within a single plant, and one of the SD1 three pot showed significant yellowing only on one side of the pot. When I watched a fertigation cycle, I noticed that for unknown reasons, one side of the ring was emitting little water, so that side of the pot had been operating mostly on horizontal wicking, which is not as effective. I have been flushing with extra top watering once a day or so to deal with that for the rest of the grow, but will be going to a Floraflex Matrix setup next grow. Cocoforcannabis recommends HydroHalos, but I don't like them because the holes can plug, and in any case I can't find them for a decent price in the size I would need. If the Floraflex Matrix system works as intended, it will have better nute distribution than the halo anyway.

Some of my solos, once again, suffered from root compaction which slowed down penetration of nutes so much that it was hard to apply enough to get runoff but not overflow the solo cup. I have tried various ways of dealing with this, but my most recent will be my tool of choice for the next grow:
    IMG_1401.JPG

The white cap is made from standard pvc pipe fittings and glue. It works by sitting directly on top of the medium, with a fitted piece of cotton cloth beneath it to prevent dirt from entering the holes from below. The photo shows my initial design with 4 of 1/16" holes. Those holes turned out to be too small and for some reason emission through them was painfully slow. So, I redrilled the holes to ~1/8 or so, I can't recall, and added three more holes. The new setup works perfectly. The cap has enough capacity to store an entire nute charge of ~100mls, and infiltration of the nutes goes right into the medium with no buildup or overflow. I originally put a couple layers of paper towel under the cap, but that rotted away so quickly, I replaced it with cotton rag. If the cotton rots away before the end, I'll use Floraflex Matrix felt instead.

Here is what the test Mephisto Fugue State looks like today:
    IMG_1420.JPG

I'm not sure what day she is at, I haven't been keeping track.

I finished collecting reversed flowers from the solo BMxSH, and binned the plant. Here is what is left:
    IMG_1419.JPG

The blue stuff is silica gel which dries the flowers out. The picture is looking inside the wide mouthed jar used as a drying chamber. Once the flowers are dry, I will cap the small jar, cap it inside the big jar, and freeze it until next grow, just for giggles. I already applied pollen to the non-reversed BMxSH solo, so if I was not too late, I should have seeds. I'll try applying some next year just to check whether my approach keeps pollen alive that long. My attempt with 24C pollen this time around will be the first time I try pollen ~a year old.

That will do for now peeps, happy growing all. :pighug:

Jan 24 update, trim jail soon, final harvest on CQ
  • Greetings peeps, time for a brief update. Trim jail is on the horizon.

First, the weigh in of the Mephisto Cosmic Queen solo. Here she is a few days before the chop:
    cq solo jan 7.jpg

And here is what is left of her now that the dry is done:
    IMG_1423.JPG

The rest of the grow is progressing nicely, a bit of fall colors beginning:
    IMG_1425.JPG

Front left is the Witch Doctor x Anvil at Day 75, front right is Mephisto Double Grape at Day 75, center is Blue Microverse x Sour Hound at Day 63, rear left is the 3 pot of Stone's Dragon at Day 70, rear right is Mandalorian Anvil at Day 76, and rear center a couple solos, the older one is Blue Microverse x Sour Hound at Day 63, the younger is Mephisto Fugue State at whatever Day - this one was just a test of the new irrigation collar I made for solo grows, I haven't been keeping track of age as it may not get finished. I have not decided whether to keep things going long enough to finish her off. So far, the new collar works well, a full charge of nutes is held in the collar until the liquid has time to soak through the solo pot. No more overflows.

Miss DG is getting close, I didn't do a trich check yet today, but need to do it soon.

    Happy growing peeps. :pighug:

Miss Double Grape is done, Day 76.
  • Trich check is good, she likely comes down tomorrow:

I could chase a bit more amber, but likely not. I'll think on it, but not for long.

Jan30 update, more pics, including a wee bit o' trich porn.
  • Not long since the last entry, but what the heck eh, stuff is starting to happen quickly. Trim time is going to get large before long. Also is it cold as hell outside, so I might as well cuddle up with the pup, and play with some pics.

First, just because I know my audience (mostly, I think, at least on one favorite topic ), we'll start with a bit of porn. First up, my BMxSH solo, which is getting close at Day 69:
    BMxSHsolo.jpg
    BMXSHsolo2.jpg

She is underway with ambering, but not there yet for me, so I'll give her a few more days while keeping a lookout.

Next up, the most advanced of the Stone's Dragon three pot at Day 76:
    stone dragon1.jpg
    stone dragon2.jpg

She is getting closer, with just a touch of ambering. I'd say she has maybe another week, but time will tell.

Now that the porn is dealt with here is the main drobe today:
    IMG_1427.JPG

Far left, Stone's dragon #1 three pot, far right Mandalorian Anvil, far center, BMxSH and Mephisto Fugue State solos, front left, Witch DoctorxAnvil, and front right, BMxSH large pot.

And this time, some top views of the individual girls:

    WDA at Day 81 :

    Anvil at Day 82 :
    IMG_1430.JPG

    Stone's Dragon 3pot at Day 76:
    IMG_1433.JPG

These 3 girls are interesting. There are at least two if not three phenos, one turning black and the other two not, and at least one of the others that started yellowing a long time ago. I suspect that the early yellowing was due to uneven delivery of nutes in the pot, but it remains possible that it was one plant losing in competition with another. I doubt that I will ever know. The later yellowing/fading may be from the same issue, or may just be one of the plants starting a fade earlier. Dunno, and unlikely to find out. If I stick with this pot setup next grow, I will be changing the top watering delivery to a floraflex setup which more broadly distributes nute liquid.

That'll do fer now peeps, happy growing to all. :pighug:

Choppity chop, the foxtail queen is down at Day 87, and Miss Anvil does her weigh in.
  • Miss WDA is chopped. I could have chased for a bit more amber, but the overall plant really looked done, so down she came. Here she is before the clippers came out:
    IMG_1435.JPG
    IMG_1436.JPG

One of the reasons for chopping now:
    foxtail city.jpg

Too much foxtail action for me. I was getting worried that whatever got to her might be causing some undetected nanner mischief.

    Here the final trich shot:
    chop trichs.jpg

Still a bit more clear and a bit less amber than I hoped. Ah well. Better next time maybe.

    The pile and the stump:
    IMG_1439.JPG

This will be by far the largest haul from a single plant for me.

The stump up close and personal:
    IMG_1440.JPG

The thicker branches on this girl were a challenge even for my heavy bypass pruners. Seems that the silica stiffened them up nicely.

And here is where she is for the next few days, likely to soon be joined by the Stone's Dragon girls.
    IMG_1442.JPG
    IMG_1441.JPG

The branches will hang in the box for a few days before being trimmed down to bud and brown bagged. That's it until the weigh in for Miss Witch Doctor x Anvil.

Bud from Miss Double Grape is dry now, so here is the weigh in:
    IMG_1434.JPG

166 grams of first class bud works for me. Miss WDA will beat this by a large margin.

That's all she wrote for now peeps, more chop action soon. :pighug:

More choppity chop chop, Misses Stone's Dragon, and Miss Blue Microverse x Sour Hound meet the snippers.
  • More chopping update.

WDA branches were trimmed to bud and brown bagged to make room in the dry box yesterday. That trim was a pain in the ass that will not be repeated. I left everything but the big fans on the branches in order to slow the dry, but that level of trim left a nasty trim to bud project that combined the worst of both wet and dry trim. Let's just say that WDA was still remarkably, frustratingly sticky, and dealing with that when leaves had wilted and plastered themselves to the bud was downright obnoxious. To make matters worse, the snippers needed soaking about every five minutes to get the goo and debris off them.

Henceforth, the initial trim to branches will be more thorough, the plan being to just have minor cleanup when clipping down to bud.

Miss BM x SH got the chop yesterday, here she is before the chop:
    IMG_1443.JPG
    IMG_1444.JPG

    Here is what was left:
    IMG_1445.JPG
    IMG_1446.JPG

There was a lot more bud in that compact girl than I expected. She was quite the dense bush. I initially hung the branches more or less as they are pictured, but after the nasty trim job on the hung WDA branches, I reconsidered this morning and pulled the branches and retrimmed, and bagged the branches instead of hanging them.

The 3 Miss Stone's Dragon #1 were chopped this morning. I didn't bother with a pre-chop portrait. Here is what is left of Miss Blackie:
    IMG_1448.JPG

And here is the combined haul from the other two green pheno sisters:
    IMG_1451.JPG

A tidy haul, and there are a couple seeded branches left to mature. Harvested branches are now bagged for the initial dry.

By the way, those Hydrofarm trimmers are wonderful. My Fiskars are now retired to other duties. The Hydrofarm snippers are an enormous improvement over the Fiskars. They are virtually frictionless, sharp as a razor, and they stay sharp. I have never used Chikamasas, but I cannot imagine that they would work better, and these are a fraction of the price. Actually, they are about half the price of Fiskars, and far, far more effective. If you need trimmers, don't hesitate to give these a try. I bought both lengths, but Iike the short version better. I use two, one hanging in ISO to get clean while the other is busy. When the active pair is gummed, it goes into the ISO, and the soaked one is good as new with a quick wipe with a rag.

    Happy trimming peeps. :pighug:

She is a producer, should go more than 200g, maybe quite a bit more. :pighug:

Trim jail is just about open.

harvest update, Miss Anvil is now buds in bag, weighins for Miss WDA and Miss BMxSH.
  • Well peeps, this grow is getting closer to the end. Miss Anvil was trimmed to buds and bagged today, and here are the weighins for Miss Witch Doctor x Anvil and Miss Blue Microverse x Sour Hound.

    Miss WDA first:
    IMG_1458.JPG

This is the most bud I have harvested from one pot, whether one plant or more per pot. I think I could get a bit more from this strain by generating a bit more early stretch, and perhaps I will test that theory at some point. Until then, more stoner theory.

Next up, Miss Blue Microverse x Sour Hound:
    IMG_1459.JPG

I have to say, that so far for this grow, this is the nicest smelling bud. Not too hard on the eyes either.

That's all she wrote for this update peeps, happy growing all. :pighug:

    porn, weigh-in, and solo portrait
  • Minor update peeps. First up, the likely final portrait of my solo Mephisto Fugue State. She is getting there, but will need another week or so. I haven't been keeping track of her age because she was just a test of the new irrigation cup that you can see in the top of the solo. The cup permits adding a full charge of nutes without the overflow which seems the norm late in the grow due to slow penetration because of dense roots. Anyway. here she is, along with a bit of trich porn from her as of today. Amber just starting to hint, still lots of clear, so maybe the standard "leave'er another week mate".

The Stone's dragon multipot bud is finally dry, so here is the weigh in. There were three plants, each is shown separately. First up, the largest of the three, a black pheno:
    IMG_1463.JPG

Next up, the green pheno sister, a bit smaller than the blackie:
    IMG_1464.JPG

Next up, the girl who left three branches in the pot for seed collection later:
    IMG_1465.JPG

So, a total of 142 grams for the pot. She would have gone over 150 if the seed branches were part of the total. Turned out to be pretty big colas left behind. And maybe no seeds... I'll chop the seed branches as soon as the solo is done, and that will be it for this grow other than the final bit of weigh in.

Thanks for checking in, and happy growing all.
