Grow Mediums occassional top hand watering as a best practice with autopots

did you know that the 2.2 gallon pots fit the same trays as the 4.9 gallon pots? just thought I'd toss that out, there, I'm considering using a couple

I have 8 autopots and 6 are cut down. I'm going to leave the last 2 alone for the times I want an XL size plant. Or just to keep them and keep comparing small vs large. I don't feel like I have done enough justice to the comparison I had in mind in the first place.

Yes they do. I cut some of the 5g in half which was ok but not pretty. Then I picked up a 4 pack of 2.2g pots and they work in the trays. I'm not sure if there is anything to be gained by using them though. I really did not notice a difference.

Yes.I just don't want to cut my pots, i'm always switching things around

I think (thought?) AFN was the safest place to ask anything and not get slammed for it. If we have questions, why cant we ask? be it 2 questions or 50? That is how we learn.

I find it very "non AFN" for someone to reply for someone to: read up and not post so much.

Didn't sit well with me. Bad mojo.

And I've proven that wrong. I've been running 8 auto pots for now just over 2 years, with the same soil in them, i never change it and I never flush it. I cut out the stump of the previous plant and plant in the hole, never had a "salts" build up issue because auto pots run a lower ppm than other hydro. due to the solution feed always being the same ppm and ph, there is a constant even food supply, they plants don't alter the solution content by much as the solution within the soil being in almost constant contact with the solution in the tray, maintains the ppm level.

And if there were such a build up at the surface level, my plants wouldn't do well after transplant. Well, this one grew 3 inches in width in 24hrs, immediately after transplant. No pause, no root shock.

The people from autopot say it's a no-no all the salts etc get pushed to the top cos your bottom feeding so then if you decide to top feed your washing all that old shitty stuff back down in the root zone.. There is a video on YouTube they explain about flushing (not being nessecary) and why not to top feed..

I’m about to get some autopots and I’m gonna have a lot of questions. I’ve also been reading about them for a year and I’m STILL going to have questions so, whoever that dude is, plan on tuning me out too lol...

I’m sorry, I cringed when I read that shit. I’m glad you ask questions @lunarman , I learn a lot reading these posts..

I’m still trying to decide what kind to get, I have 3x3 of space, I was thinking 4 autopots xl (the larger round size to fit more variety of pot size) and I would just use the fabric 2 gallon pots I already have, they appear to be the correct diameter to fit in there.. think that can work ?

The 15 liter size will be large enough for that space. You really need to use the pots that they offer with the system and there is no need to combine or use with other type pots, if that is what you meant?

XL pots are also good, but that will push that spaces limits I think. If you need to add anything else to the space, just get the 15l or 3.5 gallon.

I like fabric pots and wanted to use those.. they have that smart pot xl I just think it’s too big so I was gonna get it and Sit my own fabric pots in it? I haven’t used any autopots yet but if I’m understanding how they work, then that should be ok? They have 5 g smartpots that come with it and 4 of those would just be too much I think. But 2g seems doable?

2 gallons is more than doable. You'll be fine.
