No pollen yet - howcum?

Great thread here fellas. Been a minute since I've been on AFN but nice to still see a lively community of like-minded folk.

Early STS Reversal on a Mephisto Sour Stomper.

Also of note, caught some references to STS pricing at ~$150 shipped to CA. I'm in Southern Ontario, ordered the following from here for ~$40, shipping included -

Sodium Thiosulfate

Silver Nitrate

From my experience, CS is iffy.. Sometimes it works, some times it doesn't. It also requires way too much spraying for my liking.. I use/make an sts spray at a 1:2 ratio and it has never failed to reverse a plant. This is a current auto in my tent that I've sprayed maybe 6 times total in two weeks. I've already started pulling pollen sacks off and collecting pollen.

Yep. That's kind of the vibe in this thread. Start with CS with a few plants, then move onto STS if you get into it.

Hey @Proph, when you say, "... I use/make an sts spray at a 1:2 ratio ...", do you mean sts solution to water? If so, that seems like a high percentage of sts to water. I always thought that the plant would be , for lack of a better word, stunted by that high of a percentage. I currently use 100ml STS solution/ 650ml water when make my final spray solution. I am wondering if I should lower my percentage. My reversals have been taking 3 weeks or longer, maybe that's the reason?

Yes.. Sts to water ratio.. You are on the right path grasshopper, lol. Your thinking is correct. When I first started making it I was using a 1:5 ratio of sts ro water.. Too much spraying.. Had to do it almost daily for 2 weeks.. When I made the sts how to journal on here a couple of years ago, I was doing a 1:3 ratio.. My buddy has actually gotten the mix down to a super concentrate that only needs one good spraying.. Im not worried about burning or stunting the plants since they are strictly pollen donors. I trash them after I collect the pollen and finish taking my notes..

What precautions do you take with STS? Isnt it like super toxic to deal with? I think I might be thinking of Making STS, not spraying it on the plant.

(sorry ive asked this before)

I wear gloves and keep the raw chemicals away from each other as an extra precaution. I've never had an issue. It can definitely stain your skin if the pure sts solution gets on it, but you don't really handle the pure sts enough for that to be an issue. It literally takes 15 mins to make so there isn't a lot of risky stuff going on.. The only issue is that the price of the chemicals has sky rocketed. A year ago, you could get A few ounces of both for like 25 bucks shipped.. Now you can't find either for less than 25 for a few grams..

2gr Silver Nitrate $7.85, 50gr Sodium Thiosulfate $7.99 shipping for both is around $6-7. Canadian prices shipped to Canada, available from eBay.

biggest issue i had with sts it stained everything, hated the chemical smell and just never saw a benefit over CS. Reversed plants should Have NO hairs at all. Those hairs becoming pollinated creates a whole different issue. I usually have to reverse entire tables for seed productions. STS would bankrupt me at the cost, and its also pretty hard on the plants. The healthier the plants are the better they produce sacks. I run my CS generators on timers so its all automated. Takes 2 weeks from start and after the balls show up no more spraying.
I also use battery powered spray packs. I like the CS a little better cause it's a little cleaner IMO.
Everyone will have what works best for them , I make about 400,000 fems a year give or take and have done all kinds of methods.

Well that's enough for me to change course. I was spraying at 1:6.5 solution to drench, every 5 days until I saw sacks. They usually appeared about 2.5-3 weeks later. I am going to try 1:3 with my next solution that I am doing in sevral weeks and see what the results are.

Were you only spraying once at 1:3 @Proph? Or was followup necessary and at how many days past the initial spraying was/is followup necessary?
