Hey man, I use a 96w 6500k T5 HO (4 bulb,x2ft) for germ and seedings....every plant stays under it 24/0 for 3 weeks..then transferred to a flower tent. That's the three weeks when I never have an issue...There may be better lights for germ but I'd be tough to make a change to my system.

So in the post today my new light arrives. I'm pretty pleased with this one, especially as it was under £20 delivered. Now lets all just hope it is good enough to do the job end to end.

It does recommend a 1.2-2.9ft distance between light & plants. That is not really possible here, so may run into trouble. What I have noticed is that there are screws around the front plate. I'm thinking that it may be the same as the round LEDs where you can take the lens off & get them closer as the light is not as focused - we will see.

I'm popping a few Black Dragon seeds for a trial. I'll go lens on, to begin with, at max height & if that does not work then I'll take it off and hope.

I've added all the information that came with the light, if anyone wants to give it a look over.

Ok then. The new light has been installed & is running. Test pots are ready, seedlings will be ready for transfer tomorrow.

This is with the 42w Daylight bulb - great for my seedlings.

Old light taken out, and I've made it easier to swap out with the bigger hole / flap thing.

New Light in. It's a blurple, my first & I likes it. Hopefully, it'll cut the mustard on development.

The box will stay empty tonight, to see how the lights are & if they get really hot, sets on fire etc. If we're good, then we are a go for test.


Next step will be for extraction & smell removal. I have a feeling it will require some amendments to the box.

Been a week now since installing the light, and I have 5 seedlings under. Light to seedling top is 40cm. All seem to be doing well, but too early for backslapping yet. Light is still really good. Not much heat at all, good running temps.

Seedlings kept undercover for a day or two.

Then lid off, and far away as possible.

This is day 4 or so, looking nice.

Going to call this Day 7.

Plants still doing well, so I have raised them 10cm. So the distance between plant and lights, now 30cm. If they stay good over the next few days, then I'll repot them into the solo cups.
