You will do fine with florescent as long as you have enough watts and keep them close checking often cause these autos grow quick and will need to adjust a lot. You will need more wattage unless your doing just one plant. If your doing one plant you could do probably a 5 gallon bucket in that space and fill it up or smaller containers for perpetual grow, some people here are growing an ounce and more in just a 3 liter, can fit a lot of those in that space and time it to give you a crop to pull down every 3 weeks constant bud. If you had more watts you can also fit 4 of the 3 gallon smart pots in there that is what I am doing I may go back to having 3 in there but I want to get bud stocked up right now haha. Lots of options as you can see.
As for dirt I am using Roots Organic Original and it works great so far remember you can always go to the city over and buy your dirt etc much more discreet and can find more brands that way. Some people swear by Fox Farms Ocean Forrest others have had a lot of issues with it, might not be the best thing for a new grower if you half to get it I wouldn't add veg nutes if your doing autos unless you start seeing signs of it needing it like lighter green leaves etc cause it's a very hot soil which any of the premade ones have nutrients but it has a lot more.
