hello im new to growing and had a couple questions about my set up i was thinking of. Im planning on having an area 2.5ft x 2.5ft not sure on height yet and was wanting to use l.e.d lights would this light work for me http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-7-Band-240w-LED-Grow-Light.asp
im on a budget and this was what i like best for the money. would it be good for 3 plants? is my area big enough for 3 plants?

For about the same money you can get a Blackstar 240 Watt from Gotham Hydro. A better light and very popular with the members here. One wouldn't quite cover your area but if you're only planning on 3-4 plants, it would be perfect. I'm growing in a 2' x 2.5' area and can fit 4 plants in three gallon pots as long as they don't get too big. Then I fit 3.

For height, I'd suggest at least 4'. Figure about 8" for the pot, up to about 24" for the plant, then another 16 - 18" to the light, then the light itself with it's hangers.

thanks alot for the help. any suggestions on a smaller potent strain thats newby friendly

You're welcome. Lots of good things out there that don't get too big. Depends on what you're looking for in the way of the high. Mi5 is one of my personal favorites, easy to grow and yields well, good balanced high. Check the strains by Mossy in the e-Shop at the top of the page. Pretty much anything from Short Stuff or Flash, with the exception of the Super Autos. They get quite big and are better suited for outdoors.

one more question. Ive been doin some reading and saw some people say the 240's arent actually 240w there more like 130w. is this true? and if so should this be enough for my space? im just trying to make sure im getting the right equipment for my area. and ive decided on 2x2x4 dimensions. and last but not least im getting way ahead of myself but can i realistically expect to get an ounce off each plant with this one light? thats my goal

I thought they were closer to 160 but I could be mistaken. Most LEDs are underpowered. If they drive them at full power it greatly decreases their life expectancy. I think you would be quite happy with one of them in the size space you are talking about. If you can, I'd suggests going another 6 or 8" longer and making it 2' x 2'8", especially if you want to grow 4 plants. Those extra inches will allow you to offset the pots when the plants get bigger and the branches are hanging over the pots.

What you get for a final yield will depend a lot on you. We know how to grow them and can advise you. We set up this forum for new growers like yourself as a place where they can learn and benefit from the advice of some seasoned growers. The plants themselves are capable of much more. Personally, I've gotten as high as 3 oz. off of Mi5. Another grower here, Jackal, has gotten 6. Given the kind of space and light you are considering, I think 1.5 - 2 oz. per plant is realistic with the proper lighting, soil, nutrients and growing techniques.

One thing you’ll notice with all of these companies is that they list a certain wattage number (like 90W or 240W or 600W) but that number is a bit deceiving. They are listing the wattage number that would occur if the lights were run at maximum capacity (they are never run at maximum capacity because they wouldn’t last long if they were).
This 240W Blackstar actually draws about 135 watts. This is a pretty powerful LED light that will cover about four square feet. This light gets an A + on watts drawn because you won’t be able to find another LED grow light that gives you this much wattage power for this low of a price.

Another thing to remember is with a grow cabinet, depending on what you use for materials, you want to consider the INSIDE of the cabinets measurements.
My 23.25 inch long T5 will not hang level in the interior of my 24inch wide cabinet because the interior width is 22.75.:o
