Mephisto Genetics Nebula Grow Journal - an 8x4 full of Mephistos

I don't have any reflectors is it a must have ?
Good to have you man! :pass: The organic journey has just begun and I hope to get into things full swing as the girls start to show flower. Three plants are shooting out a few pistils and are starting to smell like that familiar scent we all know and love!

I wouldn't say reflectors are a must have. Reflectors are going to give you more intensity so if you don't have the height I wouldn't use them. I am in an 8x4 tent with 80" height I believe? I have a hunch the tent may be coming down next grow, I have no real use for it. With the added height without the tent I should be fine but as it is now I may have to remove them. I have to tinker around and see for myself what works and what doesn't. Even with the same lights and strains and soil and nutes etc... no two grows environments are exactly the same. What works for one environment may not work for yours or vice versa.

You are growing in the Bu's soil mix from BAS? I tried out the Bu's soil unamended with two plants and I am wondering if I got a bad batch. Smelled fine but the seeds in the Bu's did not do well. One sprouted and died two days later. Thought it was just a runt or whatever. The second seed sprouted and looked ok, then bent over and yellowed. it's not the seeds or environment. A sour stomper was sprouted in my soil at the same time, same environment. It's doing great. The cover crop in the Bu's is yellowed and dying as well. In fact, the clover is about dead and the lemon balm never even came up other than a couple sprouts that are about dead. I will post some pics tomorrow when I get the camera back (sister borrowed it damn her! LOL) I have heard good things about Bu's stuff and I have the tea as well, but now I am afraid to use it......gonna test it on the house plants first, a couple begonias and what not. Good to test out new stuff on other plants first if uncertain. The cover crop is a great indicator for detecting problems as well

Thanks, brother I'm glad to be here! Everything's looking good, I can't wait to see what your tent does.

Yeah, I figured since I had a smaller tent 3x3x6 I believe. I wouldn't need them so I'm pretty sure I'm fine without them.

No, I'm using the oly modern 2.0 I figured that Bu's wasn't worth the extra $2 per bag since I was getting creamed on shipping. Dang bro I'm sorry to hear that. Well, my first set of seeds died on my account, not the soil I put them in upside down and never turn out right so I pulled them. The second set of seeds I tiered a party cup inside of the soil with half olys half worm castings. It turns out great! I also started my soil with modern microbes inoculation but I did burn my seedlings a little with modern microbes when I used as foliar. Once again my error but cover crop loved it all dark green but my humidity skyrocketed on me so I pulled half and used a mulch until I got my humidity where I wanted it. I just ordered a dehumidifier so I'm planting more my worms loves the cover crop. Do you have any red wigglers in your pots?

I thought about ordering from BAS but yeah the shipping hurts. Amazon with Prime got me most of what I needed at similar costs, with free shipping. i ended up making my own soil with a couple yards of local compost delivered to me, as well as pumice and black lava sourced locally dirt cheap. Enough material for 300 gallons of soil I think? Which is around 25 1.5cu ft bags. Add some cheap peat or coir, amend it, and you have soil forever if you do it right. Source locally whenever you can, shipping kills you when it comes to soil building. If the local hydro store can order stuff from a supplier and save you on shipping try that. The grow store here ordered the Bu's for me and I paid no shipping.

I have a worm bin started and added some worms to only the 50gal pots. The 7 gal pots I will probably just recycle into another batch of soil I am preparing for the next grow, so no worms in those. I wonder now if I should just put worms in all of the pots since I should have plenty of them in the bin in a couple months anyhow. I hadn't really researched the pros and cons of worms in an organic grow but I thought it couldn't hurt. I mean, what fertile soil exists without worms?

You have the opposite humidity problem as I do. I spray the top layer down just about every 24-36 hours. If I don't the humidity drops to 15-20% and I have a hard time keeping it above 30%. The regular wetting of the mulch/top layer has kept me from having to do any deep watering for three weeks now in the 50 gal tubs. Two of the last three spray downs I used a little fish hydrolysate and the plants are loving it :greenthumb:

Yeah bro I was going to pre mix my own soil but I was afraid of messing it up. So I went with BAS. But then again you're dealing with a lot more soil than me so I would of probably would of went that route. I only have four 7 gallons.

Everybody I spoke too loves worms I have nightcrawlers on my bottom layer and red wigglers on my top. Once again thanks to @Evil-Mobo

But as far as humidity yeah I'm having a hard time keep mines around 60% so once my plants get going I'm pretty sure I'll need a small dehumidifier.

Interesting tid bit about organic soil and water only/compost tea approach. I talked with an experienced grower yesterday who grows out plants in large tubs, 50 gal and up. Several plants of multiple strains grown in one pot are started off at different times. It allowed for a single pot to harvest a plant every couple weeks with plants always at different stages. After growing organically with different teas and foliar feeds, top dress etc. throughout the grows he found it doesn't affect quality or yield negatively when applying any feed at any time. Kelp, neem, EWC, alfalfa, fish bone meal, whatever it is. It doesn't matter when it's fed what. Two week old plant and a plant about to harvest get the same feed. The conclusion is that organic growing is very forgiving and that if the soil is alive and fertile the plant will just take what it needs when it needs it so long as it is available. Learn how to build your soil and it gets easier over time to grow healthier happier plants.

Hello NN
Really enjoying this grow and conversation.
Learning alot. Nice to see a different style of cob/ organic grow than what I got going. Giving me some ideas.

Keep it coming. :)

Could not have worded this any better myself. I have come to the same conclusions with my soil. Only thing I use that can burn my plants is the Agisil Silica if too much is used. Aside from that just keep the soil happy and alive. Mother nature will do the work for you.

Thanks for the love MG!

I'd be more than happy to have you around. There's some good organic growers on AFN and the more the merrier :d5: Every day is a new experience in the garden and it's nice to have a place to share and discuss everything.

Do you have a grow going on now? Tag me up if/when you do.

Thanks for the input Mobo :smoking: Are you still using the Agsil?

Interesting that you note the agsil 16h giving issues. I think it is actually not an organic fert but synthetic. How it has become accepted as an organic source of si is beyond me. I have researched the agsil 16H before I decided to water some in and opted to not use it. May use it as a surfactant for foliar but undecided right now.

My thinking is that black lava sand, alfalfa meal , kelp meal, azomite and others in my soil all contain si. Over time they will become available, some taking longer than others to break down.

I have read about good results from veg to flower with the agsil so it seems to be beneficial. But Organic? it seems the most effective form of liquid silica is not organic. Potassium Silicate contains si in the non organic form of monosilicic acid. Diatomaceous Earth in food grade may be the way to go in the future for me. An Organic form of amorphous silica. Liquid though?

I just don't like the idea of watering in nutes/ferts for specific reasons at certain stages of growth. As far as a readily available form of silica in the liquid form? Not sure this vibes with what I want to accomplish. More research needs to be done before I come to the conclusion that agsil 16h is safe for my grow.

How does potassium silicate work with organics? Does it vibe well with the microbes and benes? Is it killing my soil life?
