Lighting MedGrower does DIY Led build (Citizen COB CLU048-1212)

That's response is why I love this S#!T so much! Sorry for laughing but every person that fires up their first set of cobs does the same thing. I spend a lot of time referring people to citizen cobs and it's nice to see happy members here at afn.

What's the color ratio in the hs1? I'd think it would be best as supplemental in flower and not as much for veg. I thought it was more pinkish red.

LOL yeah I get that man. You must have heard it many times before. I don't know what's the ratio with HS1 of the top of my head but they've done well for me both in veg and bloom. I ran the COB's now for couple hours and my thermometer peaked at 47C so all is good doing passive cooling with those numbers. Thank you so much with all the guidance and help. Now I have DIY grow cabinet with DIY hydroponics system with DIY LED light.

Oh! I wonder if it would be alright to clean those COB's from time to time with isopropol alcohol on lintfree cloth and carefull wipe them? I think over time there must have some dust built up on them.

You are welcome. The forum gets busy and I'm not allowed as much time as I'd like with each build but I do my best. Should have watched this before posting my reply. This should help

Just took a quick glance at this since I'm out. You will need to run a separate driver for the fans if you go active. Also the 1212's at 1400 ma draw 36.15 v each. It tops out the driver but does work.

Happy to see more interest in this section.

Hi

I recently purchased CLU048-1212C4-303M2K1 cobs and a MeanWell HLG 185H 1400B driver

My question though is, I only had funds to get 2 x 1212 COBS with passive heat sinks. Would I be able to wire / run / start these 2 cobs on the driver (without risking damaging driver / cobs) while I scratch together some more funds to complete the setup (2 x more 1212's)

You would essintially be running your cobs at 100w each so make sure your passive heatsinks are rated for 100w so you won't burn them out. That is serious load for COB to have, I think it still is within the limits they can handle but would be putting a huge strain on them. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the input, what you do say makes sense, The heatsinks are only rated 50-60w so best hang on till next month when I get all the cobs etc to start the grow.

I don't think that's right. 36v *1.4a =50.4w. The 36v always stay 36v and the 1.4a always stays as that. It's just that you will only be pulling 100w at the wall instead of 200w at the wall

yup That's correct, 50 watts...all day everyday Fire those cobs up @WalterW

OK thanks, so it just means the driver then is not being utilized to its full potential?

Thanks - I will start assembling everything and start

Oh yeah, If 36V always stays so and you cannot run the COBs overvoltage (your powersource can give around 140V max but I guess you can lower it down from potentiometer?), then yeah. I guess that would only be 50w per COB you can do it man.

No. It's impossible to make the cob run harder than 50w. If you dim it by half, the cob will run at 25w which will mean 50w total draw at the wall for them both.
