Mephisto Genetics MCPD_Refugee’s Experiment with DWC and Double Grape

Time for more observations by @mcpd_refugee:

1.) This was supposed to be a simple little inexpensive experiment. I was supposed to run into problems and figure out what I was doing wrong. I was supposed to completely fumble something somewhere and somehow stunt her growth. None of this is happening. She is continuing to grow at a pretty good clip. Just when I think she’s slowing down, she explodes with new growth overnight. Next time I run DWC, I am going to bend the whole plant completely over starting around Day 10 and I’m going to keep her on the deck until she’s put on considerable growth before I even THINK about letting her go skyward.

2.) On one of her stems, there are two leaves showing a brown rust. I think it’s probably a potassium’s buildup from when I increased the Bud Explosion, but I can’t be sure...well...because I’m never sure of anything. It is only on the two leaves and only on the one stem an nowhere else on the plant. I am keeping an eye out because I have a history with the rust. For now, though, I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and let it slide.

3.) The other day, I said in a post that I may have a few tricks up my sleeve regarding the height of my lights, I have and idea that will give me another 12 to 18 inches (30 to 46 cm) of headroom. It’s a risky move given the situation in the tent right now. However, I could take my fan and filter out of the top of the tent and stand them upright on the floor of the tent. I can foresee a couple of issues with this. First, there’s the danger to the plant. She’s too big to move out of the tent at this point, so I would have to work right over her. The fan/filter combo is heavy AF. I could drop it. I could damage the plant just moving it down. Then there’s the fact that this would change the environmental dynamic in the tent (sucking air down and not up). The heat from the lights is currently being sucked out of the top of the tent. Changing that may change her growth or health. I don’t know for sure that this would happen...well...because I’m never sure of anything. Finally, I’m not even sure that she wouldn’t just grow even taller to the lights. I’m not going to lie, though, a 6 foot (183 cm) plant gets me a little :woody:.I could also move the lights out to the edge of the tent and try to rig them up so I can slightly angle them back towards the middle. I think that this might also work. Any thoughts or opinions?

4.) I’m not sure how people handle growing such monster plants. I’m not going to lie, it’s kinda freaking me out a little bit, because I wasn’t expecting it. I could get used to it, though - especially if I ever get more room to grow.

5.) Mephisto Genetics, cobshop.net and Greenleaf Nutrients. I cannot speak highly enough about these companies and their products. If you haven’t used them, do yourself a favor and seriously consider it. They can make even an inexperienced noob look like a master gardener.

Get a set of hands to help you!!!
It was BIATCH trying to put my fan and filter up myself when I had plants running!!! So I can imagine bringing it down, just to be on the safe side!!!

"My god it's ALIVE" Some monster you have there. I would always err on the side of caution. I would not want to risk the health of the lady and fall on top of her. (Tho it appears you would like that :crying:). That will stunt her and it would be great if the misses videos it for us to see. Personally I would bend her at all of her tops. No need to stress she will be what she wants to be. Enjoy the experience.

I’ve decided that I will bend over her top two or three stems if I need to. However, I just bought about another 5 inches (13 cm) by moving my lights around in the top of the tent. She’s standing at 38 inches (97 cm) tall. She’s beautiful and I think I’m in love.

I also had to add 6 liters of nutrients to her reservoir today, too, as she was down to about half a bucket.

Cheers and happy growing everyone.

Day 26

She’s really kicking into high gear now. Her structure is kind of light and open, so I’m not inclined to tie her down just yet. I keep tucking leaves here and there but so far, it looks like everything has room to grow. On a sad note, my green beans didn’t like the AutoCOBs at all, so I pulled them out to make more room.

I changed the reservoir today. I’m now rocking a 5 gallon bucket. So, 3 gallons (12 Liters) of water with 6 mL of Hydroguard, 9 grams of Mega Crop, 3 grams of Sweet Candy, 3 grams of Bud Explosion and 3 grams of Cal+Mag Pro. pH is 5.8. Lights are at 26 inches (65 cm) from the top of the canopy. Without further ado, here’s Miss Double Grape:

Happy growing everyone.
Uuugh oh, the tops of your roots are losing the laterals. That means the water level in your reservoir is dropping too much.

Dang, I did not realize how far behind I was on your thread. Try to keep that reservoir topped off. I used 25% strength nutes when in flower. that would keep the reservoir at about what it started the week with. If you run out of head space you can super crop. Hardest thing for a new grower to do emotionally and physically is to super crop a plant to keep it out of the lights. The problem is many new growers as well as all of us end up in that situation indoors sooner or later. Have some grafting PARAFFIN TAPE on hand just in case. 6" lower than you think you should roll the stem crushing the inside 3 x the diameter of the stem in length between your forefinger and your thumb and bend the branch over at that pinch. Bend to 90° from the stem or horizontal to the light. If you did not get a good enough crush the stem can break usually just on the top. If this happens just wrap with the grafting tape and all will be well. You may need to tie down the bent over top as many branches just lift themselves right back up. A great lesson to teach yourself on your first harvest or any harvest for that matter is to practice super cropping on branches you have harvested. You will get a good feel for what it is to crush and bend without the dread of "Killing a Cola".

About 12 or so days ago, I started to top her up on a regular basis and changing the reservoir once per week. Every once in a while, she’ll drink way more than I expect and her reservoir will get low. But I am trying my best to minimize it.

I would get over medicated :baked:and being retired one day is just like the next, anyhow I lost a plant that totally went dry in 2 days (maybe 3). That is when I put a top-off tank with a float valve on the reservoir. I have not had a problem with it since.
