In one of the Bugbee lectures he said weed can handle up to PPFD of 2,000, as much as corn. I put my lights closer after that LOL. So far I only have the LUX sensor on my phone though (Galaxy S7). I ordered a UNI-T UT383BT Light Meter, but the order was cancelled because they were out of stock.
P.S. - I just ordered another one on eBay for $22 all in, but it ships from China.

I use Photone app and it’s been tested against an apogee hand meter and were so close I couldn’t see my self spending hundreds of dollars on something that gives me readings on slightly more accurate then my $5 app! If u use all white diodes it’s so close no calculations are necessary but if u use white+red diodes u gotta multiply the ppfd reading by 1.12!

This is light reading on 60% from 24” away!

That’s before doing the X 1.12! If u check out migro light on IG he has a graph where he did readings of several light meter apps and the apogee meter all on same light from some distances so u can see how accurate the $5 app is!

PS if u wanna go over like even 1200ppfd u need co2 supplementation or plants will not handle anything even close to 2000!

Ok so I went ahead and lowered my light today to get some better photons on the girls! I measured just now (both hanging height and ppfd) and I think we are gonna be much better off going forward!

So 1st the hanging height……
It’s 48” over the girls exactly (so obv was like 64”+ previously) but seems I’ll leave it here til I need to raise it as they get big!

So I did go ahead and turned dimmer up to 80% so we’ll see how they respond cuz seem a tad wimpy to me as of now!

So this is the ppfd reading for new height

And according to migro light that tested app if using a mix of white and red diodes u multiply by 1.1 which I did to be safe since it does have both color diodes in light!

So we’ll see how they look in next day or 2 to see if they can hang or if I need to lower to 60% for now!

Also it seems that fungal dominated compost/ leaf mold compost stuff I used in soil is some good shit! Haven’t even watered in LABS or anything else but got some crazy microbes already kickin off!

It wasn’t I bought premade soil and got it home and found out ph was freaking over 8 and beans were already soaking so I just mixed up a batch but obv had no time to bake it! Had to plant right into it very next day!

No I almost forgot but I’ll get ppfd next time I open tent! Also it’s so big I didn’t wanna mess with raising and lowering it so it’s prob 6’ off ground or just under 5’ over plants as of now! Def runs hot so we’ll see how well I can manage it once I need to increase intensity later on!

Leds may be cooler than hps etc but they still produce heat. Wood be nice if they offered a hood that you could run direct into your vent. Bet my ac cost would be cut in half.

I did notice the metal cover part that goes over driver seems to have 4 screws in it so may be able to remove it so driver can be moved or at least run a fan up there to cool it better! Prob should get my infrared thermometer out to see how warm it sits and if it’s actually the diodes that make all the heat!

Well so far so good! Light is about 48” over plants still at 80% and no stretching or anything happening so no complaints here! Plants are digging the FOLD 8 light much more then the old qb lights I rocked for a while!

Gave em a spray with some captain Jack’s today just cuz I’m paranoid I’m gonna wind up bringing mites in from wherever the source is outside that’s giving tomato plants issues! Sure hope not and ordering some hypoaspis miles but also some predator mites that eat spider mites so they can eat any invaders and if none they can spread out to kill any colonies nearby that could cause an outbreak!

Also gonna hit up the local worm ranch cuz her castings have tons of beneficial bugs that’ll also help keep invaders outta the tent!
