Mephisto Genetics Simoigets SIP grow ..all time favorites of the mephisto variety

When I made my first 27 gal, I realized that upsizing the rez was a bit of a mistake- especially with the 3/8" drain. You never really empty the rez and when you add nutes its getting watered down. Now I'm sizing the res for 10% of what my soil is(in theory what you'd feed in a normal pot) Now when I feed week 7 nutes they get the full amount and you don't have a lot of "old" stuff hanging around that can go bad

No harvest results yet...I underestimated how long the plants had left and sam og and the forgotten cookies are still going but nearly finished.I chopped the double grape a week ago.

This post is to show my new and improved SIps. These will be for my next grow. They are bigger capacity with a 2.5 gallon res and aprox 12 gallons of soil. I am hoping the bigger soil capacity will support the big plants that I usually end up with growing in these SIPs.

I will start a new thread once I have the beans in the dirt.i am really excited for the next one ( like always!).. the new sips to try out, I am adjusting my soil mix and mulch, adding bark nuggets, thanks @Organic Sinse for that knowledge! And have a strategy to try and push these organic SIPs to a higher level! Also general environmental conditions should be easier to manage just due to the time of year and ambient temps/humidity

Join me on the next one!
How deep will the media be? Still will be good wicking? Are you going to mix the bark nuggets or cover the top? I can make a lot of bark nuggets.

The perfect depth is about 300mm/12 inches. if soil is deeper, you’ll have to keep an eye on it and keep the top layer moist manually (but: too shallow = too moist). That’s also the reason why Earthbox should be filled +/- 2“ higher than the rim to work perfectly. Medium should contain enough peat (60% is a good reference). Volume of rez has no influence at all.

Cheers and happy growing :toke:

Yeah, that's what I was asking if the new sip was going to run that depth of media.
My media wicks well and I agree 12 inches is a great level

That is for sure one of the variables to be determined.I think I should be good tho. the height of the tote is 12 inches. Minus the 3 or so inches taken up by the res and air space/floor that puts me at about 9 inches, maybe slightly tall for optimal wicking but with some top watering if/when needed I should be fine.

The bark nuggets I am leaning toward using as a mulch. I too have access to a lot of bark. I burn wood for heat in the winter and I cut and split a mountain of firewood every summer.

@WildBill I am curious how you "make" bark nuggets.yesterday I put a bunch in a garbage bag and then drove over them with my truck. this worked ok but took too long and there were still a lot of big chunks

I'd use the tree I had to have cut down. I tested a couple months ago using this thick headed cane machete to harvest. I haven't tried any further. Maybe hit them with my Big Boy Mower.....once I replace the shitty carb. Maybe It won't make em too small.

edit...............Using it as topdress, you should have a good mix of sizes. Use the fines and smalls first and top with the large. When you want to feed dry ingredients or EWC, just pick up the big ones and lightly scrape back the smaller chunks to one side. Leave the bark that's far into decomposition. Amend and maybe add some fines and just layer it back up. If doing a liquid, just feed it on top.
Volcanic pumice will be in my next media I make up.

hmmm...the mower..I like that, might be the ticket

Yeah, I can pull over a pile and lower the deck on top of a pile. I'd just do it on my parking lot in front of my shop tp make sure I don't waste much. Blower to help gather it back up.

Very stoked to be able to close this one out!

It took a little longer than I anticipated for the sam og and forgotten cookies to finish

Sam went about 85 days and cookies about 80

I managed a fairly good dry I think. The record heat wave we are having did not do me any favors but the humidity stayed reasonable and I got about a 10 day dry and then into jars

Final yield exceeded my expectations on all fronts.even though I feel like I may have stunted the forgotten cookies and double g they both did better than I expected.

Forgotten cookies came in at 120 grams, or roughly 4 oz, the quality of the nugs is top notch. Super frosty and dense nugs, amazing Terps and early samples say potency is high

Double grape was the weakest plant in the tent, it was in the fabric pot and never see the same results from the pots as I do from the SIPs. Double g came in at about 90 grams or roughly 3 oz. Really frosty and potency is always good with double g, I do have to say tho, that it has always disappointed me in the smell/flavour department, at least the pheno that I have grown. I saved a bunch of this plant for hash and I think it will be excellent for that

Now!..last but oh so not least. We need to talk about Sam...this was my best plant to date, in yield and quality. It was way higher yielding than I anticipated. Samsquanch og came in at just over 300 grams or 10 oz. My personal best yield from a single plant. And also my personal best yield from the tent at right about a pound total!

I'm really pleased with how this one turned out and owe thanks to all who followed and lent their help!

Peace all and please follow my current grow which is posted in the organic forum. I hope to improve on this one with some new strategies and inputs
