New Grower Male and Female Is it predetermened in the genes.

Is seed sex predetermined by genetics?

I believe the Herme thing is more an effect of the seed chromosomes and enviorment including over stress. I had a great line of pot a pure Jack Herer that woud herme far too often so I had to give it up. It grew in exactly the same conditions as 4 or 5 other kinds that gave no Herme problems. I still grow a Jack Herer cross and have no problems with it. I think some kinds of pot are also more inclined to mold than others. I mention Bubblegum as one of another great pot that I don't grow anymore because of the mold problems. Again I grew her in the same conditions as many other plants that I had no mold problems. I have a sad feeling that maybe MI5 has mite problems. I will grow it outside again next year and if it has mite problems again while AA and SCH has none I may drop it from my grows. Too early to tell for sure one year is not any proof of a problem.

I have grown all mine indoors. Haven't had any pest problems but they are always the first to show signs of calcium deficiency for me.

How do you tell the difference between calcium deficiency and magnesium deficiency. I find it hard to tell them apart. I treat my tank with a supplement that has both in it. It is really the only supplement I use other than vinigar for pH. All the rest in just nuits.

Calcium deficiency are little rust colored spots forming in no particular place on the leaf. Magnesium starts on the bottom leaves and begins to yellow and then rust or necrosis of the perimeter of the blades. Calcium deficiencies for me aren't as common as the magnesium but those are both pretty rare now that I'm doing nutes differently. My main overall problem has been stopping veg nutes early rather than continue them as a supplement. That in turn was causing nitrogen deficiencies all around. The mi5s for me are about the only ones giving me any hassle. They aren't bad by any means but they're the most stubborn I have.

I am quitting the grows of Mi5 in my bubbly tank. The main reason is the lack of any consistancy in the phenos and my inability to stabalise them to the point where they turned out to be consistant in the main pheno I wanted. I am now concentrating on the Snowryder and Mi5 cross which does somewhat reward my efforts to get a pheno that works in SOG. I am trying for the single colon one.

too many hermie if left alone thinking they will not get pollenated, suggesting that they are not predetermined

Another good point. Kind of like my cousin Wayne and his boy friend Chris. Nice guys but not so straight but who cares.

Hey Nelson... I can spot and decipher deficiencies in about 3 seconds now... but it took me many months of checking back against this guide... and still do occasionally for a brush up... buts its worth a read...

This is such a great thread, btw... I love hearing all the opinions / arguements...

keep it up guys!

Nelson: please DONT take this thread or poll down... judging by the semi-heated discussion that breaks out occasionally when this thread gets in rotation... the jury is still out.. maybe by hashing it all out we can finally resolve the answers to this age old question.

@ Hitman... now THAT is some interesting shit... males going female... WTF? lol

Wow that is so pensive and fair minded what can I do? nothing about the fact. I will totally leave it up an my twenties daughter says. Seriously you should run for office. It would have to be better than the blow hars and for the most part stupidly that are running now.

hell I don't either bro. the only conclusion I have for it is that sex can be determined and appears most likely to be determined by the environment. I have deduced by process of Elimination the hermie thing is a genetic mutation for asexualality. Why one does it and the one next to it doesn't is anyones guess. Just answered a question in another thread that's basically the same situation.

As for removing the poll I'd ask that you didn't. If I were on the losing side I might. :) but that poll and the information contained in this thread while some is just speculation provides a base that people can see and try to understand. That's why were here I would hope. If I were growing simply for bragging rights and yields I'd certainly not be on the internet trying to learn and see other peoples perspectives.

i know nelsons quote here is old but honestly this is how the VAST majority of Stitch's lineup is. the genetics are WILD. like i mean super wild pheno selections and not in a good way at all..... which is why i no longer support his breeds.
