The Original San Francisco Sourdough Bread was by far the best sourdough I ever got to eat. The company had to close when one of it's delivery truck drivers hit and killed a pedestrian. It did not have enough insurance at the time. Their starter died during the closure and was lost forever. Boudin took over the market since and is good but not the same.

Acme Bakery in SF makes amazing breads, boy do I miss that!
My son in Virginia and my sister in NH both keep a batch of sourdough starter brewing. When I was in VA in May my son got up 2 hours earlier than everybody else so we had hot sourdough breads for breakfast every day. There was none left by lunchtime. Sis gave me a jar of sourdough culture with instructions how to keep it going, but I was too lazy and it sat in the fridge for months until it was trash.
