@Olderfart the hash I made was from dried cured bud. It was actually a bit too dry and I didn't want it to get too old so I just got everything cold and then crumbled up the buds by hand.

I ended up with 2 pounds from those 4 plants growing hydro in ProMixHP but it wasn't great smoke. Gave away half and there was no way I was smoking all that so I made hash lol

I've heard fresh frozen is great for hash and rosin, but I've not tried it yet. Got some ugly outdoor bud fresh frozen in my freezer though so will probably give it a shot this winter.

I think you can press fresh frozen directly too, but I know nothing of rosin pressing so I'll leave that to the experts here :smoking:
Gotta dry fresh frozen sift or it'll get moldy and if you press it wet, it'll get the parchment all soaked and just sizzle the rosin as you squeeze it. Drying the sift is the tricky part but if it's that cold and dry where you are it should be totally fine

I have pressed a bit from dried stuff, but have not done fresh. I'd be surprised if it would work, there might be too much water in it. The steam would be impressive! However, hash from fresh stuff, or to more precise, kief from cold screening of fresh frozen might press better. I might try that at some point. I'm in no rush, I have the press in the meantime.

I 'm not sure I would know if my bud is getting too old. So far, I have not noticed. I am vaping 2year old Seedsman Straberry Cheesecake, and it is delicious. In fact is pretty close to my favorite, and now that it has been in the freezer for a while, it works great for sleep. As I recall, it was not that good for sleep when fresh, but I could be wrong about that. At any rate, if it has suffered, I can't tell. I store my stuff frozen in 1 Liter mason jars after drying and a couple month cure. Peeps say that you can't do that or all the trichs will break off, etc etc. All bro science in my opinion, as long as you don't disturb the bud before the jar is fully warmed, and not bang it around in the freezer while digging for stuff, bud comes out of the jar pretty much exactly as when it went in. I just thaw the jar out, extract what I want for the next week or two, screw the top back on, and fire it back in the freezer.
But then again, what would this noob know about it eh? Thanks for the bag info., I appreciate it. Happy bagging @Susitna. :thanks::biggrin:

Some weeks my porch is a could qualify as a freeze drier. :pighug:

Thanks for the info. If I make some fresh sift, I'll leave it outside in a thin layer, and I'll bet it won't take long to dry. Have any suggestion on how to tell how dry it is?

I would think that dry sift from fresh frozen, and then dried super cold would make some pretty tasty stuff. Them terpenes are not going anywhere very quickly at -20C.

That's awesome, definitely going to try dry sifting some then, thanks! Problem I had with mine was too dry and even using hot bottle and stone it was reeeealy hard to mold into temple balls.

Thinking fresh frozen sift will be perfect once I dry it a bit. And @Olderfart, I like your vision of laziness ahem...efficiency I mean. Going straight from harvest to the freezer and to hash and rosin sounds like it would save lots of time and space.

I'm going to have to join the press and vape club to keep up with my "growing" habit

That's ideal. Parchment lined baking dish covered in cheesecloth should get it dry in a couple days like that. It comes out kinda wet and chunky after the dry ice sift and you basically want to get that moisture evaporated out before pressing or hash making. Here it's only freezing consistently for a couple weeks out of the year so it takes a 2nd batch of dry ice to make it happen
