About when I was ready to finish university, the first electronic calculator (Hewlett Packard, natch) was just coming out, but only the rich kids had them. Price was (keep in mind that this was in the 70's) close to $1000Cdn. Nowadays, calculators as capable are included as gifts in boxes of breakfast cereal. Cell phones, or something like them, existed only in Dick Tracey (there's another dated topic) cartoons.

I know exactly what a slide rule is! I am an old fart as well!

i know what it is! :jump: my dad was a consulting engineer & that was like, his main fuckin tool, lol ;) ppp

I'm in my 40s. Never learned slide rule in school. My grandfather had a collection of them and I never knew what they were. Wasn't until I started land surveying that I learned what they were and how to use them. But it's been a while
