I love it when breeders give credit to the predecessor breeders. Realy classy.
Meph's "breeding auto" is proprietary, understandably not giving that up.

But if something is truly old school, widely cultivated, or unknown origins, how could they?

Death Bubba is a BC Bud strain that someone claims is their breeding. But I remember it being clone only long before his business appeared. Maybe he did, but sorry pal, I will get original clones before modified seeds.

That is interesting.

Like, my neighbor used to grow weed. His dad had a farm and he grew it in the open out there, way out in the country. He had some strain that he knew inside and out. He spent some time in jail, and gave a friend some of his seeds. Now the friend won't give him any back.

He didn't even know what a "strain" was. It was just weed. So if you just hit upon some random redneck like my neighbor with a fire ass strain they'd somehow bred, what would you even call it or tell your customers?

Yeah that says something but this is what I saw plus all the claims against him and that was enough for me to make my determination. BUT to be completely honest he wasn't even on my radar before I heard of the issues

"Ohio Fire". Family held heritage strain :pass:

As joe-schmo grower playing around and making hybrids, I doubt anyone is going to raise an eyebrow.

If you start marketing those hybrids for sale though; are you now potentially infringing on intellectual property?

Do you guys remember Phylos genetic database project? It was supposed to be a genetic registry for cannabis genetics (it turned out into a massive spiral downward though,) but that was supposed to be a "next step" in protecting cannabis genetics.

These would be great questions to ask some of our breeders on-site! @Jean-O , do you have two cents on this?
I personally don't see anything wrong with using other people's stuff to breed with and market for sale. Every breeder in the world is doing that exact same thing. I do think it's proper to say who created the genetics your using to create your own crosses. A lot of my stuff is furthered work with other companies genetics like Mephisto, Dinafem, Dutch Passion, Sweet Seeds I could go on and on where the original genetics I work with have come from. I didn't create cannabis and neither did any of the other breeders alive today were just continuing work that has been going on for thousands of years. Anyone who thinks they should own a cannabis strain can keep it to themselves and not share it with anyone if they want to own it. What every breeder does own however is there company namesake and what they stand for in the cannabis community. I choose to share because I care about cannabis and its progression. People choose to support my company because I do care about my products and helping others be successful at growing. So I guess I say breed on and continue the work.
