Do you think them purpling is a phosphorus issue? Although purples can be genetic, usually seems to be a P issue if not genetic...

@Mossy, @Waira, and others, any opinion on this?

I thought the same thing but being it’s only on one side made me think he was right about it being sunburn :pass:

You know that is a good question, possibly?
Can these plants when pushed hard on one side cause a deficiency to just that side? Inquiring minds want to know.
If this happened after the addition of under-lighting, then likely it's a response to the increased intensity. This kind of color pigment can serve as a sort of "sunscreen" to protect the photosynthetic machinery... It can be a co-symptom of P defc., but I'd say typically that would accompany the usual larger sized brown spotting that P defc. causes...
I see red/purple on stems/petioles very often OD's on my photo's, top side only often...talking cultivars here that don't express purple/red coloring otherwise...
Of course, the cultivar's family traits are a factor, and T's that dip low enough to also cause such expression... Some show stem color normally though... The NYSD x Headbanger OG I ran last year went purple-red top to bottom on her bones early on... gorgeous!

As for localized defc. symptoms, like you mention above, no it doesn't manifest that way. P is mobile within the plant so any lack-of would show pretty much all over...

Have read and seen a lot of articles and videos relating the purple petioles and other purpling to P. Never knew how much was bro science and what was actual science. I get it fairly often with high DLI indoors, but like you said with your NYSD/Headbanger, usually only on the upper petioles. So, makes perfect sense

Wonder if there is a correlation between the chemicals forming a "sunscreen" and P....??????? So, what forms the sunscreen?
