Mornin' yall... @WildBill you have stirred my own ocd about cleaning ya ride. Last week while we had some 70's temps, I got started too.

My ocd came from....in the '50's, my two brothers and I seemed to be always tasked with washing Dad's car on saturday morns...oh we did it in earnest..got good at it..but seemed we always had to do it again and again... we learned it was a diversion so Dad had some time with Mom but we all grew a love of keeping a car clean and shiny.

How funny that my 'rat-race' career was in the automotive field, servicing manufacturers like Ford, GM, Chrysler, Peterbilt etc about how to keep paint on products and look good long term. The primary and best secret is cleaning the surface before anything else...Clay Bar has been the best product for prep ever. After done with it, it's all down hill racer ready.....
Surface prep is everything! I have never used any form of a glaze. That's just a band aide for a crappy surface prep..........and a few washes later the scratches reapear.
No topping goes on until the surface is as prefect as practical, given all the variables and conditions. Knowing and meeting your customer's expectations can often save you massive work. After a full wash and claybaring, It was pretty clear that all I had to do was a minor refinement of the finish. I wouldn't even call it a minor correction. I always try the least evasive method first and only step up if needed. It may just only be a change of the kind of pad or just an additional pass.
It takes a lot of time to be able know in which direction to go given all the circumstances. I have had the opportunity to detail mult-million dollar cars. The first one was a Bugatti Veyron. The owner was/is pretty infamous. We called him "Porno Rob"! :rofl: His claim to fame was being the owner of a very large and evidently very profitable pornographic website. I was at a regular weekly car meet with my friend's Mach1 that I had just given a full on national car show style detail and paint correction. It was red, so it really stood out. It especially stood out when Mr. Rob passed by with the sun setting. Here's a guy with 7 or 8 new supercars in his collection and stops and comments this lowly Mustang! :rofl::rofl:
I didn't know who this guy was, but when he brought me over to his car and asked if I could d the same to his car......................all I could see is $$$$$$$$$$$$$! :headbang::headbang::headbang::cools:

Yeah, I made quite a bit off ol' "Porno Rob" :cools:
Silly fugger tried to get me to play a "bit part" in one of his damn shoots! :hump::wall::rofl::rofl::rofl:

My contribution to April...how bout some old rock from the '70s...saw this group in Memphis several times in the old days....

I love to wax on hahahaha View attachment 1303026
STOP IT!!! :wall: :wall::wall::rofl::rofl::rofl:

KEEP THAT UP AND I'LL HAVE TO BREAKOUT ONE OF THESE!

I did my truck last year. Washed, clayed, rinsed, wiped down with a paint prep solvent to remove anything left behind down to the paint/clearcoat. Machine polished with a polish/sealant to remove fine scratches. Beautiful shine. Took me two days. I see why it costs so much to have someone else do this. But pretty cool when you accomplish it yourself.

Yep!
All this stuff started when I got my first new car I bought just before I turned 16. I had the down payment, plus money in the bank. just got a 'regular' job and Dad co-signed for the bank loan. My payment were $99.02 a month for 36 months. My obsession got severely INCREASED when I bought a BLACK bigblock powered F150 truck. I used "Liquid Glass" product back then. It was the top product back then and was pretty expensive at $19.95 for 16oz. What a pain with that product and on a black color.
