Sign me up I’d be honored if I got to be a tester
I m not in for free seeds , I respect breeders work and I'm happy to pay them, for me chance of seed testing is more like a privilege ....
Are you saying that you must have grow journal(s) on AFN? If so, I would disagree with that. I think if we have a wider spectrum of growers at different levels we would end up with more usable data. I would guess most "beginners" would not have 1 or more journals on here. I don't think not having a journal should exclude anyone from being a tester. I do think that testers need to do a journal of what they get to test, but simply not doing 1 yet shouldn't keep anyone out. I have not done a official journal yet, but if I had something to test I would be more than glad to do 1. And not sold on personal statement. I would like to be a tester cause who don't like free stuff lol. I would like to help out the Cannabis community too. Most people would just want free beans I would think, and that's ok. As long as your doing what your asked of I don't think it matters. I think we are better off opening it up to more, than limiting to a select few. Not hatin' just sayin'...@Son of Hobbes here are a few things I think should go into an application for testers:
-Number of documented grows on AFN or completed journals in the case of not getting to harvest for whatever reason
-Set up: Lights, Tent/Room dimensions, pots, nutrients, medium, etc
-Growing climate: Avg Temps and Humidity
-Personal statement - Why this person wants to test? If applications are breeder specific, why does the person want to be a tester for those genetics?
If I think of anything else I'll be sure to come back and add more.
I agree it would be a privilege to be a tester, but a few free seeds is ok with me lol. Not like a 3pak will stop me from buying more lol. I'm the last 18 months or so I have spent around a grand on seeds. I just did the math and can't believe I have spent that much. But I wouldn't give 1 of those seeds back for the money tho.I m not in for free seeds , I respect breeders work and I'm happy to pay them, for me chance of seed testing is more like a privilege ....
I like most of what ya got. I would kill to be a tester, and be damn proud of it. I would tell everyone I know, wait no actually that goes against rule 1 of fight club lol. I would hate for myself or anyone else to be excluded just because haven't done a journal. I would be on board with some requirements like need to be a part of our family here for like a year. Getting some free gear is an honour and should have some time put in before you can reap a benefit like that. May help cruve people from just trying to get some freebies and not adding to our community. But I would rather look at what someone in my skill range, and environment than Ed Rosenthal grow room lol.@Mcdee The answers to the question don't really matter, at least to me they don't. I was just giving recommendations for what could go in an application.
The app process can get a little hairy.. Which it should, lol. Testing is a serious job that is also a necessity. I test for two major breeders and a handful of others, and had to jump through all kinds of hoops and prove myself and earn trust before I got to test unreleased strains. I didn't mind, because I look at testing gear as a way I can give back to the canna community. The major issue is breeders having their genetics stolen or used by testers. A good percentage of interested testers either just want free seeds, or want to get/test unreleased genetics, to use for their own devices. Those types have to be weeded out. Perhaps there can be levels to it and the ability to test unreleased strains can earned.
If I was a breeder, I wouldn't want a group of newbies testing my gear and displaying it. Its too risky. If I saw a pic of a plant with issues, are those grower caused? Are they genetic? 1st impressions are everything. The breeders use the feedback and pics from testers on their websites ect. It can be a pretty big deal.
But I do think the app process is a good idea because there are a TON of gem growers hanging out here that may not post regularly!
