Idea: Application for Testing Seeds

excellent input Prophetiko, I have been around a few breeding projects for crops and everything you say is exactly what they worry about. People need to realize that breeding is a long term deal, it takes years to breed properly. I would not want unreleased seeds out there at all if they were mine. Maybe if I was already a big name, but certainly not if I was banking on it.

Yes, what you say is spot on. People should also realize that they may not know what they are growing, many of the new strains just has a number, say auto indica no. 338 or auto critical no. 72, whatever .. And that is all, except "they are all supposed to yield XXL and a finish around 75 days. If they realky want me to grow the auto sativa 48G first, they add something like 'virgin haze' , red amnesia, nagging Jane, super mango or whatever.... You will never truly know what you are growing and what it will be called if a strain make it to production.
Breeders also like samples for lab testing, keep about 1 g in the freezer they say, so it helps to be close too.

I think I am going to do a journal, Just so I can be eligible to become a tester.
I mean, a noob with cheap everything and water so hard you have to use a hammer to get a glass of water would be a good way for the breeders to see what their genetics are capable of. There are a lot of growers like me, that don't have money for high end equipment, that would be able to look at what I could do with cheap as dirt gear and make their decisions on seeds based off that, too.
Pretty sure I may have quoted or plagarised a few posts with that, but hey, I'm on my first cup o' joe, so leave me be. :pass:

personally, I'd want people with some experience to be the ones to grow my test strains. I'd want people who know what observations to make, who can identify one plant from another by the plants looks, most new growers can't do that, it take some experience. You also need to know what your seeing when there are problems, you need to be able to identify nutrient and ph issues accurately, on your own, etc. Sure, anyone can grow a plant, but testing unreleased strains needs an experienced and critical eye. The breeders aren't looking for a RAH RAH RAH! Its great! answers, they need accurate, unbiased, data.

In total agreement @Rev. Green Genes and @Prophetiko , look at the F**** Gordon affair a few years ago! Super Auto's my foot! If you give project material to prospective growers they must be able to:

1. Document accurately.
2. Diagnose any ongoing deficiencies

and most importantly.........

3. Love the growing process!

You are absolutely right my friend. What more can I say.

I think we talk about to set a experience level for testers.

Example
Like
Level 1 = new grower with one journal+/smoke report minimum with 4 plants

Level 2 = normal grower 2 + grow journals+/smoke reports

Level 3 = senior grower 5+ grow journal+to/smoke reports can identify defiance , know something about different genetics

Every one who want to be a tester has to ask to get his/her experience level set.
I know there a limited number of seeds to test and a random generator to choose the tester will be a must.

As a breeder I would like to see my seeds tested from Level1 growers to see how easy the plant is to grow and how much experience is needed to get good results.

The Level 2 test is great to see what a standard Grower can do with my stuff.

The Level3 is the Show grow to see what is possible.

A definite chart for the setup with a experience level.

I been under the auto grower for 3 years now would defently be interested in being a tester and that would be a great idea if grower 64 autos in last 3 years will defently up post my upcoming grow 5x pineapple crack 10 gorilla og by short stuff and 4 glue dream by top shelf

Of course, who wouldnt want free seeds.
And who decides who's an expert.
And who decides who gets them.
I didnt read all this but i guess its a good idea if your in the click.
If your not, well good luck.

I agree with all these posts in some way. I agree a lot with the mention that breeding projects take a lot of time and dedication. I personally enjoy watching a strain take form from something that's not stable at all to a room full of exact plants. I agree that certain levels of growers should test different strains but developing strains should be left to those who know what they are doing. All in all this is a great idea!
