New Grower I probably should have waited until fall...

Ok so after running AN's calculator a few times I see that the ratio between the Grow, Bloom and Micro remains the same throughout most of the grow. So I better understand your comment.

The thing that most new growers do that I do not agree with is they try to push their plants with the nutrient schedule. Thinking that giving them Bloom nutrients will make the plant bloom. That is not the case and it can stunt a plants growth. The idea is to give the plant the nutrients it can best utilize for the growth period it is in - follow the lead of the plant.

Yes, I admit I would be tempted to do that, but wouldn't know how and still stick with the recommended ratio for AN.

Ok, I see now as well. Thanks for clarifying [HASHTAG]#manogreen[/HASHTAG]

Whew! You guys had me a little worried for a bit! So, I will stay the course with the same formula I have been doing. Maybe add back b52 next week. AN recommends not using b vitamins during the initial light switch because it makes plants less reactive to the dark period. By next week, I should be over that concern.

After that small change, I don't do a thing different until last three weeks of flower. Got a while to go for that I think.

MOG, that's the calculator I use, just at two thirds strength. When you click on those options, you will see that you use the exact same ratio of the three part base (micro, grow, and bloom) through the whole grow. Only the supplements change, adding big bud in early flower and then overdrive in late flower.
There was some variation in the ratios in early veg then after that it seems to remain constant.

I am a firm believer in using a vendors entire line. What about the 10 other products they offer for a "Master" grower? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ This is why I have never used AN. I am a cheap S.O.B. in fact I am going to give Greenleaf a try in my next grow. A lot of the guys on AFN have tried it with good results and it cost less than 1/3 of the House & Garden I am using now. I have used Dyna-Gro in the past with good results but the buds grown on H&G and Dyna-Gro side by side won a taste contest I ran with some of my chef stoner buddies 3 to 2 out of 5. So it was still close but H&G won.

Yes, you are right. They recommend less of each of each of the three during early veg, but the ratio remains the same throughout 1-1-1 for micro, grow, and bloom. It is almost too easy to follow.

Yeah, I had to balance things out, or go broke! No master grower lineup for me. Sticking to the hobbyist level, so as not to break the bank. The only thing I have been convinced to add is flawless finish for the final flush.

Have enough of everything for another grow, then will decide if I stick with the brand. So far, I don't see why I would change though. It depends on how the flowering stage goes.

I am always looking for better cheaper ways to do things. It does need to be equal or better to get my vote though. I am also doing the fastest autos I have so as not to lose too much time if I don't like the results.

That's a smart way to go, MOG. I don't think the hobbyist level lineup was out of the range of most of the other brands I looked at. If I can keep it there, and not have to buy anymore products, and most importantly get great results during this first crazy ass grow, that would say a lot. Would be hard to switch.

I like the idea of a faster grow, man! Should find that with the 2X DP Auto Night Queen run that I am next. Conditions should be perfect here then. I think I am so much better farmer now than I was at the beginning of this grow. I am excited for this grow, but anxious to get the next one going!

Side by side grows with clones is a lot of work and given my small sample size it really is statistically insignificant. The thing is if you are not using all of the vendors products how will you ever know if you have achieved or not the best possible results? I can tell you that after watching hundreds of new growers on many web forums, the ones with the highest number of problems are the ones that mix and match their own nutrients. They seem to think they are smarter than the PHds that formulate the vendor's lines. They also seem to need to reinvent the wheel. Then when through no fault of their own the plant finishes and gets them high they are proven correct. I know this all too well. Some 40+ years ago I started growing flowers and vegetables "Organically" for sale at a roadside stand. My plants made fruit and flowers but by the end of the growing season I had made little or no money:yoinks:. It took me several years to understand that quality and yield were the kings of making a success of it all. I have taken that lesson indoors to my pot farm. Quality and Yield divided by inputs are the top measures of success in my farm. My plants are tops (as rated by my stoner friends) for quality. I am getting yields of 1.5g/watt now in my rockwool drip system. This is not my best. That came with DWC at nearly 2g/watt in a winter time grow. The problem with DWC is the really high temperatures I need to deal with in the summer here. DWC can be done in the heat but it takes a toll on both quality and quantity when it gets too hot.
