Alright, I've been reading around and keep finding different answers so I'm not sure what to do now.

I just harvest my second grow got everything trimmed, dried and put in jars at the correct rh, how often should I burp these jars?

I read it and I have a problem getting that green smell out. I am looking at burying most for a couple of months so I dryed it until the stem snaps then put it in a jar. No martter how long I burp it, the smell remains. We used to call it the chloriphile smell. So I have taken it out and dryed it until that smell is gone. It is now very dry but I feel safe putting it undergroung where I can not visit it often. When it is time to smoke it, I spread it out on a tray on a day of high humidity, like a rainy day. I know this is not right, but I have to much to either have at home , or risk losing to rot while underground. Beleive it or not, I bury it near my patch. 12 years and still secrert my spot, I sleep well knowing it is there.

Guess I will follow that article again, I used that for my last harvest and it all worked out well. Just this time I will be doing long term storage and was reading some other things and it was getting a little confusing.

yep... bottom of that article:

55-60% - Long term storage stage. I still leave the hygrometer in for about a couple of days/week, just to make sure it's leveled off (unless I have placed a Boveda 65% packet in, then I take the hygrometer out). Once it has leveled off, then I take the hygrometer out & seal the jar. I don't usually storage too much for long term usually just 1 jar per strain per harvest, unless it's just some incredible stuff and I want to be able to share it with long distance friends & family when they visit throughout the year.

If for some reason it reads under 55% - either you left it hanging to dry for too long with a fan blowing on it directly or too close to a heat source/vent or you might need to have a humidifier on a timer in the area you dry in (make sure it's not blowing the moisture directly on plants) OR maybe you just need to wait a little longer for your next reading. Wait 12-24 hours, and check again if still under 55 well you just learn a valuable lesson on how not to dry so quickly next time. It'll be shitty to smoke, guess you could grind it or tumble the heck out of it or maybe make tincture/butter/oil, vaping will probably be ok but smoking it is going to suck. But hey it takes experience, just learn from it....dumbass! LOL! You can re-hydrate a bit with either a Boveda pack (my recommendation) or with things like a bit of orange peel tossed into the jar. The smoke may mellow out & be smoke-able but it won't cure like it's supposed too. If you have never had properly cured cannabis - you're missing out!

If you are at the right Rh, why keep burping? The burping is to get you stable at the right Rh. No one can tell you how long to burp; as its environmentally dependent on you. I simply hang to dry until the stems are at the verge between bending and snapping (no fan - nothin! - just in a dark closet with the door open). Jar them w/ a hygrometer (get a good one at a cigar shop AND calibrate it!) burp till its in around 65 - then drop in a Bovida packet and I'm done! It may take you a few times to get the hang of it, but it sounds like you are drying too long.

I read many articles back in the day (and still now) and heard of people drying for a week or more. I'm under 3 days hang time! Took me forever to figure out how to get rid of the hey smell. This was long before the internet was ever around.......

That's exactly what I did, my rh is at 63%, I don't have any hey smell or anything like that going on. I was just reading around a lot and kept seeing one article contradict the other when it came to long term storage. It was a lot of misinformation but I got everything correctly done. Guess I was just looking for a little reassurance considering this is is a fairly large crop and I don't want to ruin my nice smelling buds by doing something incorrectly.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I am going to buy a hydrometer now. What I did was wrong. Just opened one and the smell was bad. The ones I put away after the stems snapped smell like hay a little, but otherwise are good. The potentcy also seemed to have increased.
