Not too bad on the heat I can hold on to the bulb when it's been on for a while... There is certainly a big difference between HID and CFL, especially on the electric bill...

Yes 300 actual watts! Not a puny CFL is it? Shipping depends on where you live/carrier I'm sure... you could go to the site and fill a cart to see the cost without checking out...

You'd really be better off with multiple 23W CFL's equalling 300w total. You'd get much better coverage and more lumens... Those bigger bulbs arent quite efficient as the small ones. With CFL's you want your bulbs as close to your flowers as possible, within 1" You wont cover 5 plants sufficiently with just one bulb..

You might, but personally from my experience, you'd want more 23w bulbs...

With CFL's you want to shoot for about 150w per plant for optimum results.

I completely agree Stumpjumper but that ends up costing more in the end with fixtures, bulbs and cords... In a reflector they are actually quite efficient for a single large bulb...

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm looking to get some other lighting. At the moment I have 1000 watt hps and 1000 watt mh I would like to get something without all this heat

I remember your light setup from one of your other threads Carlos, did you decide to sell them? You'll definitely be happier with the temps, etc. of CFLs. Maybe one high watt overhead in a reflector to start and add the smaller bulbs to surround the plant as you get money?

You can get a 5 socket bathroom vanity fixture for about $8 put a 2 way in each one and you can throw 10 bulbs in there. I'm going to do that x's 2 and make a reflector out of some tin and either paint it white or glue mylar to it.. I think it will be cheaper than buying a bigger bulb and a reflector, maybe not though.. I just like doing stuff like that... DIY is fun Still way cheaper than HID, way less heat, way less electricity and very good growing results..

You might yield a little more with HID but it will still be excellent smoke, as long as you do the rest right.

Haven't sold them yet. Not sure if I should put the money into cfls or l.e.d's

That's a very good idea. What wattage cfls are you using? I believe I'm using 26 or 27 watters
