Apera's work well, and are the best bang for the buck that I know of. Mine worked an absolute treat for my grow after it replaced the cheapie that lasted less than a week. I went for the cheapest model with the replaceable probe. A new probe, should one be needed is not that much more money than a new cheap meter, so if and when the meter gives up, I will just get a replacement probe. At this point, the meter works flawlessly, so no probe needed. What ph meter would you recommend? I got one but it didnt seem to work well. Just been using liquid dropper test. I might try out some these blumats they sound like what im looking for.
Just so you know, cheap EC/PPM meters are fine, it is the pH meters that you need to spend a bit on to get accuracy and reliability. The EC meters are essentially just a simple ammeter calibrated to show how conductive the tested solution is. Measuring pH is a whole different animal, and requires both a sophisticated and sensitive probe element that "senses" the test solution, and more complicated electronics needed to interpret the probe signal. The higher complexity seems to defeat the cheapies more often than not.
