just pulled 3 males from my grow and am keeping one for pollen. hes just sitting on my window ledge in the kitchen. he gets whatever sunlight is available at this time of year and at night time we're in and out of the kitchen so the lights are on and off, i'm stillgiving him nutes ,
just wondering how badly he can be treated and still give up the goods?:twist:

Hey boomer i am in the same boat bro, first time i am keeping a male for the pollen, thanks for asking the question because i was thinking the same as you. I stuck mine under a single blackstar 240 watt OVERKILL i know haha. but no air circulation. Do males drop pollen way before a female plant finishes? Not trying to jack OP's thread its on the same topic i guess

I keep males seperate from females , usually under a floro at 12/12 and collect the pollen . Then use the pollen when females are half way through bud cycle

There's a couple ways I do it. If I an purposely trying to create a male I leave him in my germing cabinet. Lights go 24/7 but its just a couple small cfls. That speeds them up some. In the sad event that I get a male out of what I an coercing into females then they are on 17.5/6.5 till sex. Then its 24/0, again to make them grow a bit faster. I really want them dead before buds start to set just in case. If I want to test a strain out without seeding the whole plant ill pollinate it when they show a few double pistils. If I'm sure of the cross and really want them seeded I wait till there's a good bud. If you were only running one strain however you can drape a plastic bag over the male. Let him mature. Then when the buds are set just remove the male and thrash the females. But as far as males go unless they are truly special and I've only had 3 this year out of about 100 that were taken care of properly.

couple things I left out. 1. I pick the flowers from the males just as you would picking ticks off of a dog. Many times I have more than one male in the cabinet and can't afford to have them mixed up. So its better for me to take them off prior to them opening. As soon as I see the petals form, off they go. 2. I mentioned the early pollinating. The reason its nice is because those seeds form below the bud. And because they're on the main stem they mature a lot faster than the plant itself. that means the buds are still clear for either sensi or pollination by another male. just an idea.

thanks for the info guys, i'll just leave him as he is so :smokebuds:

I start all my plants in 4.5 square x 5" deep pots under a 175 watt MH and some CFLs. If I get a male I want to keep, I just leave it in that pot and under the veg lights. While they won't get huge in that size pot, they do get big enough to create more than enough pollen. One I get what I need, they are put to death.
