New Grower Hey all, first grow

Hey @BudfiendBill Thanks for the tag. I have used charcoal filters in and out many times no difference effective both ways.

Be careful with those plastic cups over the seeds, they allow 99% humidity and new seedlings will be susceptible to damping off under those conditions. It would be better to raise the humidity in the tent to 60% and ditch the cups.

Hey grow bro I just read through your journal so far and I like what I see. You will have a full tent with all those girls! Looking forward to your next update! Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but the filter thing is definitely something I have been thinking long and hard about. If you need to save some more space in your tent you can always mount your extraction fan outside your tent, and literally just have the filter inside the tent and run the ducting out to the fan you mount elsewhere. Saves some room if things get cramped!

As for his post, yes he is not wrong, if you do the cups over the babe they still need vent holes or else you will just murder them under the cups. I had some serious issues my first grow from that very problem. I don't use them anymore, and you would probably be better off just running the humidifier and the exhaust on low, granted as long as the heat stays under control. That's just my :2cents: as always, and definitely take anything I say with a grain of salt. I will always share my experiences with you though! I saw that someone covered the air flow issue earlier. Just to double back to that point.. even with lights off you want that fan running and pulling air through that tent. Some of us, like myself, like the girls to be in hurricane force negative pressure, to help with humidity and temps. You have a massive tent so to be able to exchange all that air every minute inside you will need to be running a fan that can pull 216 cfm, 6 * 6 * 6= 216 ft³ is your grow space and how I got to that number, at a bare minimum, if you want fresh air in there. Just a heads up, it's not a big deal right now but in full flower those girls will be pumping moisture into that environment and that will need to be addressed. Also take into account that typically a carbon filter will reduce that cfm from anywhere to 20-30% when that filter is attached. That's something I never considered before I did some research, and for that reason I chose an exhaust fan that way exceeded my tent's needs, either without the filter or with it on.

Sorry for going overboard but I wanted to give my take on the grow and give some props to what you have going for yourself already. I'm quite amazed at your setup. I have a feeling you will be very happy with how these girls turn out. You seem to be on top of everything for a first round grow!

Also... Not to be that guy but if you want to follow along with my grow.... Here is a link lol

I'm just getting into flower now, but I go overboard with my details on my girls. Check out what has worked for me and what hasn't. It's all there for everyone to learn along with me:pass:

I'm still a rookie as well, but the wealth of information I have sucked up from growing even one round is amazing. As well as all these peeps here. This is a great place! Its growers helping other growers become better growers. Period. Welcome to the family!

@Frenjamin Banklin I like what you’re doing there bud, trying to lower input (electricity mostly)while maintaining output(fat dank buds), that’s something I can get behind, saving money is my motto and every penny is a prisoner haha, loving learning all this new information and other people’s takes on growing, love this forum!
:bighug:
@Mañ'O'Green Thanks amigo much appreciated, I’ve taken them off since my humidity is 66-71 and seems to stay there so all good now I think.
Been learning some about VPD today too and seems I’m at about .85ka if I’m working things out correctly, which is so close to recommended low transpiration bracket for seedlings, need to put more reading into that one though only discovered VPD today

@Illini4life hey amigo nice to meet ya, thanks for the support much appreciated man:d5:
I’m definitely not going to bother with the cups anymore, got my humidity sitting nice at 66-71%, thanks for the heads up from you and man’o’green on that one guys, could’ve been nasty...
Good to know I can mess around with the extraction kit later when I’ve got my smaller tent on the go, I would hate to have to buy another system to leave one sitting gathering dust in the loft, just need to keep my filter fresh, happy days.
The fan I’ve got is the 5” rvk I think it’s about 220cfm but the filter will restrict too yeah, seems ok so far with the fan up full and one mesh slot of the tent open, the walls pull in and hold but I guess I won’t know the effectiveness until I’ve got some stanky buds growing haha.
I will definitely follow your grow amigo I’m soaking up into like a sponge at this point, can’t get enough of it:biggrin:

Thanks again guys, legends on this forum, so happy I found this place.
Peace people and happy growing!
Bill.

My First Ladies starting to show their heads above ground, I’m so proud haha, happy days :headbang:
Hopefully all be out by tomorrow then, exciting stuff seeing them for the first time, does it feel like that every grow?
Only been lightly sprayed so far, will add root juice 1ml per litre next watering and lightly spray again, read so many stories of overwatering, damping and root rot so been playing it cool finger checking soil and making those roots work for it
More updates soon,
Happy growing troops,
Bill.

into the brave new world! :yay: ppp

They don’t make pre filters that fit inside, sucking is always better than blowing. Also much less prone to air leaks. All just my humble opinion
yes they do :eyebrows:comes included with the carbon filter,it is the white dust cover thats on the outside carbon filter.JPG if blowing take the cover off fold it in half then slide it inside fits perfect, like it was made for it
tip.. wash it before thisfilthy carbon filter.JPG

No problem, just ideas. From a super cheap grower. I’ve been putting everything I run on timers trying to minimize power consumption as one of my original goals was to see how cheaply I could be productive. If it’s early veg I may only run my oscillating fans run 30% of the time and then in veg 50% of the time then full flower I’ll run them 75-100 percent of the time. Same with most of my components as long as the reduced time running doesn’t effect output. I do t have a grow journal going currently but when I do you will see I’m also a crazy grower running 8 hours off on my lights.

Keep up the good work.

my ext fan runs full blurt 24/7.a real bad cold winter few years ago it got a speed controller cheap speed controller.JPG then got real cold so stuck a 15min on/off timer to cheap timer.JPG it were only for a week or so got me through.
watering/feeding....how much/how often etc. so many different ways.if there was a theory or reference it would all be listed in books.its more of a rough guide, then a bit of a feel thing to :watering:
overwatered,underwatered,over fed,under fed my first 4 grows.
up and out  good luck n keep er lit

Love new babes! They look happy :smoking:

Something I never mentioned and honestly is great for us new growers is fabric grow bags. They essentially make it impossible to over water your girls, while also allowing the roots to get more oxygen because the sides of the pots are porous, hence allowing excess water to drain out, and on the flip side allows air to flow right to the roots from the sides. Promotes way better root growth and root drop, plus they are dirt cheap. Usually you can find 6 packs on Amazon for less than $15 dollars. Sometimes even better deals. I'll never go back as long as I'm in soil :pass: looking good and don't hesitate to ask any questions on here. If we don't have suggestions we definitely know someone who does!

Edit... If you're not manipulating the humidity to get that high, when they are in veg and going into flower, that might be an issue because plants transpire and push moisture into the environment, effectively rasing the relative humidity. Sometimes more than you would think. That's why proper extraction in a confined space is crucial.

@Illini4life hey bud thanks, I thought they looked happy too but eh what do I know
I honestly wish I knew about fabric pots and air pots and the effects of air pruning before I bought my pots/saucers but for this grow plenty of holes drilled will have to suffice and onto fabric or airpots next time.

The humidity is being boosted by a cheap humidifier up full blast so flowering hopefully shouldn’t be a problem when the time comes( praying that time comes )
Also been checking out your current journal too bud but only made it to day 5 earlier, gonna read more tonight for sure once the feet are up and a smoke in hand
:smoking:
Thanks again for the info man it’s much appreciated, I can’t get enough information right now, just soaking it up like a sponge reading and watching as much as possible
Happy growing!
Bill.

You sound like we're both cut from the same cloth my man! I was a little crazy with how much research I did before I ever even planted a seed. Like I still lie to people about how much work I put into it, but believe me you won't regret doing it!

Oh man you may need two doobies to read all the way through that whole mess of a journal :crying:

I'm calling it now... You're pulling 1.5 pounds dry weight from all your girls! Who else wants to get in on the games!?
