New Grower Grunt's Third Grow

It seems lie you have a potential grow space there, keep on brainstorming:smoking:
You do want to consider your plastic glazing carefully,I suppose, if you want to get fancy.,,, the light transmission is important. imo 90% or better if you can find something suitable. If that space has any passive solar possibilities you should look into making it a solarium. I assume you really need an expensive project:toke:

It would actually be very straightforward. I would just need to remove all of the siding and pretty much replace it with whatever sort of paneling I want. I have heard fiberglass is an excellent choice because it lets more light through than most plastic and is fairly well insulated, even though it appears to not be nearly as see through. But I will definitely do a lot of research before buying whatever I end up with. We have been wanting to open it up somehow to let more light in downstairs at that end of the house. Although I warned my wife that if we let in too much we won't have a cool spot in the house anymore in the summer. Right now the dungeon down there is our saving grace on 100+F days. Lot's of brainstorming yet to come! Thanks for the inspire @Jraven

Here's mine on a winter day

That's my kind of winter retreat, I bet it's especially rad on a rainy day with all the noise. And 45 seconds to clamming, got it good right there! Is that a ficus next to the door? I am infatuated now with the solarium, especially seeing all the cool houseplants in there, in my situation I could have a small orchard of potted citrus trees... gotta keep the scurvy at bay lol What type of panels are those? Same for ceiling and walls? I believe I read what they are in your thread, but can't recall.

I was just wondering if I should top the ficus again, lol. Originally I thought my favorite thing about it was going to be canna growing but I didn't like it as the whole answer. The real advantage that's easily measured is the energy savings in cool clear winter weather, and as spring comes on it could pretty much supply all the heat.If I got some solar water heating set up even in this climate it would be a winner. The panels are multi -wall polycarbonate. It's higher R but less than 75% light transmission. That was a problem in a low light summer like we often have. A tree could fall on those roof panels and bounce off lol

Looking good brother, very curious to how the quick one and the Kush man turn out as I have several from last seedsman order myself, hell even the mazar I been thinking about those they seem to run well, I like the water jar heater idea that's nice idea with really no cost, Penny's to run water heater for few mins. Gonna tag this journey if u don't mind, keep it up. I'll be watching,

Glad to have you along @midIN ! I am pretty curious as well, the Kush was going a little slow at first, but is picking things right up, starting to smell nice as well. I keep turning the exhaust off when I tinker so the smells aren't just getting yanked away, smells like a little forest of dankness to come. The Mazar is some awesome smoke, just keeps getting better every day it's in the jar. I believe I got three different phone's out of a three pack of seeds, but maybe just two pheno's and one plant just got more purple. I will definitely try out more Dutch Passion stuff in the future, especially for outdoors since they seem to like getting big. The Mason jar/jars water heater worked really well, as did the indoor flood lamp style bulb, but I like going as free as possible.

Yes the Dutch beans are in my lineup for future orders think I'm just going to grab Few of each for the winter and just run Dutch for awhile. Was told the quick one has few different phenos, so may try to run couple at a time when I can see what the do plus us different pot sizes, i added the jar idea to my home remedy note book. Really curious about those Kush man they look good keep it up.

Update 5/7/18 Day 22

The plants are starting to grow very nicely. It's just the right time for them to get going, but I also really think the Nectar nutrients are helping as well. The only thing I can really see going on with any of the plants is the Quick One still has a tiny bit of leaf curl, which looks like heat stress (which I thought it may have been originally being the closest plant to the heat lamp) but I'm pretty sure it's from the small fan blowing a little too directly on her, so I adjusted that a bit to help. I devised a new tie down method, as I really don't like to grab the plants and hook stuff onto them very much. I used my soft ties diagonally across the pots, tying them to the holes I drilled around the rims for various purposes. It's not super easy to see in the pictures, but you will get the point. They are working well so far and the new growth tips are slowly but surely rising up. I guess the idea is similar to SCROG but without the shitty nylon netting that most just clip from around the plants and throw away at the end. Hoping the soft ties are reusable lots of times, if not I will figure out a different material to use that isn't making the landfill a worse mess. There is another goal of mine: help others with creative ways to have a smaller footprint, we can all grow chronic without all the trash and consumerism, in my opinion. There is also a fifth plant in the tent (last freebie RQS N. Lights) growing in a glazed 1 gal terra cotta pot. I had just enough soil left and found that pot in my gardening cabinet, I think there should be just enough room in the tent, if not she can be my patio test. Anyhow, she is growing incredibly in the smaller pot and is only on day 18 (youngest). Also of note, I gave plants their second feed yesterday with the Nectar goodies. I went half strength, last time was quarter, and probably could have gone full, but like to air on the side of caution. The reason I say probably could have gone full on is that if you read the ingredients everything is so broken down and simplified, half of it is to nourish the soil more than the plant. Anyway, the plants love the Nectar and I strongly encourage others to check this stuff out.

Jack Herer chugging along. Just about to overgrow the edge of the 3 gal pot. I keep tucking the upper fans as often as I can and the growth tips are really coming along. No tie down on her yet.

Seedsman Kush, same as JH, growth tips coming along nicely with lots of upper fan tucking. Might tie this one down, going to decide today as I probably ought to get it bent sooner rather than later if I'm going to. And probably should since it sounds like these girls can get some height.

IMG_1635.JPG

RQS Quick One. You can kind of see how the soft ties snake through, they are just crossed in an "X" and hold the plant down without hooking around it anywhere. The growth tips are starting to be higher in elevation than the actual top of the plant, this is a good thing, breaking apical dominance without cutting the plant, therefore should not increase time to harvest and have multiple main colas as a result.

IMG_1636.JPG

RQS Northern Lights. Same criss cross of tie downs to hold the plant over. The growth tips are also really starting to pick up speed and four of them are working on their second nodes. One looks very pale in this picture, but looks beautiful in real light. That lower fan leaf pushed up against the side of the pot is getting cut off today. It's adjacent growth tip is in the worst place of all of them, so I will take off both the fan and that growth tip and I think the plant will be happier and divert energy elsewhere as a result.

Group shot. Decided to tie down the last two, why not try and keep the canopy fairly even? Middle plant is in a smaller pot and elevated on a platform of boards, so it can be dropped in height to keep fairly even. I see 5-6 colas forming on each plant as the growth tips get to fight for elevation dominance. Is there an emoji on here for a plant in bondage??? The mods should make one with a plant bent over with like 10 colas popping up ha ha
