Hi guys
I am setting up a grow room. Need a suggestion. I am installing a split air conditioner system to keep the temperatures down. The question is do I need to install an exhaust fan to to exchange air or will the split ac do the job of the required Co2 levels in the room. Smell is not an issue for me. Room is approx 15ft X 15ft X12ft. Room will be almost sealed. I will be using 2000w lights to grow around 15-20 plants.

The air conditioner should exhaust all the air but you need some sort of fresh air opening or intake fan for a room that big to bring fresh air into the room.

If you're going to use a mini split, where the compressor is outside and the cooling unit is inside connected via tubing through the wall, then yes, you will still need an intake and exhaust. I'm looking at the same type setup for a new area I'm setting up. Mini splits don't actually bring in any outside air, they only cool what is already in the room. You're still going to need to change the air in the room periodically. I'm thinking I'll run my exhaust fan on a timer and have it come on at set intervals and only run long enough to change the air inside the room. I don't want the exhaust running all the time and pulling all the cooled air out of the room.

Thanks Muddy. That is exactly the type of split ac I am installing. I will be using an 8 inch exhaust fan. It not an inline one as they are not easily available where i reside. Its a normal exhaust fan. Will that be good if run for 15 mins every 2 hours?

Before I can give you a good answer it would help to know how big your space is? Also, do you know the CFM of the 8" fan?
