New Grower Gratefully green husband

Next up, Media and Nutes! This has probably been the area of biggest concern and after all the mind numbing info I have watched, read and listened to I have decided I am going to KISS this area. To begin with I want to go organic because taste and quality is of primary concern so I have decided to go with Nature's Living Soil Concentrate 5lbs (1lb to 10gal of soil media), Viagrow Coconut Coir 11lbs (2 blocks) and Viagrow 5 gal. breathable fabric pots
still the same mix ? sorry coconut coir is the only thing that rings a bell with me.

good growin in 4 days  good thing about coco is its harder to overwater than soil.coco dosnt like a dry period like soil.slowly increase the amounts,or i should let coco growers give advice.
good luck n keep er lit.

Really? I have been following a grower that mixes dry organic amendments (Gia, I believe, not available here) and coco with amazing results. I'm using organic amendments in more of a moist form, so I am experimenting because I have only spent about $15 per plant on nutrients, coco, perlite and grow bag. Not even sure if that's good or not. I might even be able to spend less with cheaper grow bag. But back to the point, he waters about every 5 days when the bags dry out. That is usually when the plants are drinking a gallon or so a day. Are there any good charts on watering?

Pretty much. I amended the new pots with perlite and about 4 oz more concentrate. BTW, this is what is in the concentrate.

only you used coco rather than potting soil.and it was all given a good mix up,not layered.
the guy you follow,he puts the dry ammendments ontop of soil...edit...nono coco... every now and again and waters in...thats the moist bit ?

He mixes before germination and top dresses after flowering begins. I am planning on top dressing also once flowering starts and just water until harvest. We'll see what happens.

After a couple of rough starts I now have 2 hardy plants that are lucky to have survived the first couple of days because of the way I tried to germinate them. And I have 2 plants that I germinated correctly and haven't had an issue except for a deformed leaf on one. My biggest concern now is watering. How much and when? The coco the plants are in was very wet when I germinated the seeds and I have not been giving much water. Two ounces to the seedlings every other day twice now and 8 oz every other day to the 2 wk old. The bags seem to still have some weight to them and the surface is bone dry. Should I just keep doing what I'm doing or let the bags dry up some more before I start watering? I am growing with organic living soil amendments in coco with perlite. I am not adding any nutes to my water.

Day 7, the 1st photo shows an OGK that was germinated directly in a golf ball size pure coco core surrounded by living soil. Notice leaf tips. 2 and 3 were germinated straight into grow bags containing living soil without any type of buffer. The soil had been active for about 3 weeks before germination. Great color and no observable issues.

Day 18, this one was germinated in pure coco core and got off to a slow start. It is the only one of 5 to survive. She is doing well now.

I'm not sure on using organic living soil amendments in coco. I just use plain coco in my autopot system. When I rehydrate the coco bricks I mix up a light nutrient solution and calmag, then let that sit overnight before placing into pots. I then soak my seeds for 24hrs by then I should see a small taproot. I then water each of my pots with 1.5 liters of same light nutrient solution and place germed seed 3/8" - 1/2" down in hole I made with chopstick. After seed has sprouted and above ground day 5 I give them each 500ml light nute solution, day 10 750ml - 1L light nute solution, day 15 1L nute solution then by day 20 they are put onto the autopot reservoir
