I would do 2/4 OF, 1/4 HF, 1/4 perlite. If your not using perlite do a 2/3 OF to 1/3 HF mix. The happy frog is a soiless medium so i treat it like it is perlite. It helps aerate the OF and make it less potent.
So, this is the magic formula you came up with after burning up... how many grows in a row?

Ocean Forest is too hot for seedlings. Soiless mediums are mediums that have NOT had guano's, worm castings and other amendments added... like Pro-Mix or some others that have peat/bark, perlite and lime, only. Happy Frog is NOT soiless and if you use soilless pH numbers when you water, you're going to have problems. Happy Frog is in no way similar to perlite. It is very heavy and should have perlite added, if anything.

Sorry iLI, but you should know better than this. :peace:

Ive never not grown in anything outer then Fox Farms Ocean. Ive read over the years its to "hot" but not a singular one has ever had a issue with it.

Have to say, I don't agree with what you're saying here. As someone who has been helping new growers on forums for a long time, the biggest single issue I see is pH. Correct pH, especially when growing autos, is very important. More grows have been ruined by incorrect pH than any other issue I've seen.

As for the PH balance it says it is on the bag but I never worry about that. The act of watering and nuting changes ph I ph that and just water my plants. I don't even bother with testing the run off. Don't chase the PH dragon or you will forever be doing that.

For myself Ive just never had a issue with PH. I ph my water with nutes water more then whats needed and everything has turned out just fine. I do give correct PH I just don't bother checking the run off.

I was really stoned this morning when I was refering to happy frog I was actually thinking of Fox Farms Light Warrior. Im really sorry i just re read through i feel like an ass well yea what jd said if you want if you can pick up some lightwarrior seedling mix its a soiless medium its soil its so light and fluffy again I never used happy frog im sorry for mis info im going to edit the labels now.

Figured I would chime in here. I have only used FFOF in my grows, and I also mix with Light Warrior. The LW is seedling soil with more perlite mixed into it. I use a mixture of 2 parts FFOF and 1 Part LW. Never had any problems with the soil being to hot for a seedling, and with the LW added in, it helps get more oxygen to the roots.

Never tested PH out of bag. I use OF for my seedlings in jiffy pots. Use R/o water. I never even test the ph of my ro water. I raise 120 babies EVERY MONTH to sex and never had a single burn. I think they fixed their "too hot" problem whatever that is. After they sex, I transplant into HF. Seems like I can feed more nutes with HF and its a little cheaper over here. Plus I like Mycorrhizae and it has it in there, OF doesn't. All my babies look like this using OF and Ro water til sex. NO NUTES added at all. Use to add a little roots excellurator during week 2 but seems like it makes the bottom start to root bound. The Roots Excel. is doing its job too well I guess lol. Last pic is when I used Roots Excel. Do you guys think the roots are ok like that? Or is it gonna take longer for the plant to adjust to the transplant when its like that. I'll take a pic of what they look like now when I transplant. Didn't use Roots excel or any other rooting additive.

HF holds water really well. I mean my pot is 1.6 gal and it can last for 3 days. Does not drain well unless u add perlite. But IDK if better drainage is actually better for the plant. Has there ever been actual proof that it is? Cause it seems like in hydro you want the roots to always be moist. Wouldn't you want the same in soil? Adding perlite seems to make it dry out faster. But hey if it really makes the plant grow better(for a fact) with more perlite I will definitely try it next time

LW is garbo. How do they charge more for something with almost no nutes in it. None of the shops in my city carries it. And their are like 6-7 shops within a 10 mile radius of me

Well if my soil ph is off it will change the ph of my water. Which is why I'm having problems now, but maybe I should just keep my water ph in check and turn the other cheek to the runoff.. or

I'll just get a ph meter and test my rumoff, then adjust my water ph accordingly.

Thanks everyone for the great advice
