Indoor Dark Devil in soil

Thank you so much for journelling this grow there is really valuable info in there for me. I would be very happy with that result.
Cheers k

I try to journal everything. Mostly for my own sake or I forget what I've grown and what's went wrong lol

Gave the 2 Fox Farm Happy Frog and the 2 Roots Organic Lush 300 ppm of megacrop 2 part.

Day 16

We noticed some minor clawing on the Coast of Maine 1. Did not feed her. She hasn't needed to be watered yet either, unlike the Fox Farm and Roots Organic. Seems to retain more water.

Coast of Maine 2 was hit with h2o2 a couple days ago. Plucked the dead leaves at the bottom and noticed a small spot on the tips.

Some curling seen on Roots Organic 1. Both RO1 and Fox Farm1 seem fine on the wick bed.

Fox Farm Happy Frog 1. It's too early for purple right?

ooks like the COM doesnt drain well, seen similar issues when the roots get suffocated.

I think the Coast of Maine ended up looking the healthiest in the end. Bigger pots and water only would be a better test though, fed a lot of Megacrop here.

Next time I run soil I want to get away from ferts and move towards top dressing. I'm thinking one of those 42" kiddie pool in my 4x4, fill it with perlite for self watering, with maybe 5-7 ladies on top. I want to upgrade to 5/7gallon pots, but I don't have anything bigger than 3s with the cinch top, and I really like my fancy pots. :joy:

Those pots are awesome!!! I will say that in my very limited experience with autos, that the plants in 5gal fabric pots are doing way better and are way more forgiving than the plants i have in 3gal fabric pots. Also my 3gal pots feel more like 2gal but i havent measured. What is the kiddie pool for? To catch the runoff? How do you drain it? And what are the benefits of keeping the runoff under the pots that way? Is it just an easier way to collect runoff? Ive seen it mentioned before, setting pots on a bed of clay pebbles or perlite in some container under the pot. Do the roots grow down into the runoff? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to understand.

just get some earthbox jr’s and CoM soil and dry amendments. I’ve grown quite a few plant in that soil it’s a little hot out the gate so I like putting about a solo cups worth of their sprout island seed mix in the center for the seed to start out in let them grow out into the hot soil. When and if you do it again feel free to hit me I have a few journals with CoM soil :headbang:

I like the way @N/A-Greengo grows in living soil, he has his system dialed and i love the way his plants turn out. I bought a bunch of nutes to start and i wont be wasting them, but watching his journals make me want to move to living soil with top dressing. To be honest, ill probably end up doing a little of everything eventually, i also want to set up a tent specifically for hydroponics as well lol. Baby steps, small victories are still victories!!!

Nah no runoff. You fill the perlite bed with water and the soil wicks it up. The soil stays moist the entire time, you just keep the kiddie pool filled with water. And extra aeration is needed in the soil(extra 15-20% perlite)

Here's an example from my older grow. Just a 2"x6" frame with pond liner and filled with perlite to hold water. Pots sit on top. You just refill the perlite bed.

With that kind of setup I had issues with roots growing into the perlite.

I found a (kind of) fix for it by lining landscaping fabric over top the wick tray. I just lift the pot and the roots tear off.

I've been watching a lot of build a soil videos and I wanna try their 3.0 and light recipe. It's the same price at my local place as Coast of Maine.

The kiddie pool should work about the same way as earth boxes, but a good bit cheaper.($12 for a 42" kiddie pool, maybe $80 in perlite) Has the benefit of using fabric pots, smaller or larger size pots, as well as a much larger water capacity.

I used auto water bases with wicks and I usually wait till reservoir is almost empty the. Top water periodically to flush old out and keep ph in check then I can collect runoff and test ppm if needed 5 gallon is nice but I recently started a strawberry popesicle in a 10 gallon fabric pot on a milk crate base that I made for free. I bought 4 ac infinity fell In love with results, and now all my plants use this style of bases I had roots in reservoir through bottom of 10 gallon pot in 12-14 days. U don’t want them filling up with roots either I’d suggest get better bags not cheaper ones that was what I did lol. I have a pineapple daddy around day 60 in last pic it’s almost ready on my milk crate system worked amazing.
