New Grower First Time CFL Micro Grow - Northern Lights

Lots of harvest myths ,,,, do they work? who knows; but we all get in too our own rituals ,,mine is defoilating it and crushin the stems the day before:shrug:

I have 5 house cats the smell of weed is the least of my prob:rofl:

if in doubt chop it,security chop it.
im with TheMongol on the darkness myth, same as the flush myth, have tried them both but couldnt tell any difference.boiling water/stabbing the trunk there are lots.but at the same time if it works for you keep doin it.
:pighug:

Multi-quote isn't working for me now, so I'll try to summarize.

I'll keep fans going during the darkness, probably 15 minutes every hour should be fine, yes? Since there's no heat from the lights, there is no need for them to be on 24/7 correct?

As far as the darkness myth, my impetus for using this method is mainly because I won't have time to chop and hang until Saturday. So this way, I can seal it up better (due to plant height, I had to have the trash can lid hanging from the ceiling which allows light and air (i.e., odor) to escape. Also, I plan to cut the main stem and super-crop some of the stems tonight so as to try and stimulate some last minute bud-growth.

Will it help? I don't know. But I don't think it will hurt...will it?

Alright. The deed is done. The lights were removed, the LST strings were cut, and the plant was damaged. I ended up squishing each of the branches with my fingers, in a supercropping fashion, and also made a 1/4" gouge in the main branch with a knife.

The fans will kick on every hour for 15 minutes to provide fresh air, and I'll chop her down this weekend.

Goodnight, everyone.

Idk how you like CFL or not but for a quality micro grow QB120'S are where it's at. They are incredibly thin the driver can be mounted outside of the grow area and the light itself doesn't get very hot. You can build them yourself for right at a dollar a watt and these lights are top notch. Just something to look into if interested and I'd definitely recommend it. I remember a comparison video on YouTube being done and a 60W quantum board 120 preformed as well as 184W of CFL lol so it's definitely worth looking into photon boards are also good lights.

I actually did a garbage can grow with one once and it worked great because the light can sit 1" away from the buds with no negative effects and it has a wide spread.

Interesting. I'll definitely keep that in mind. However, right now I have nothing to compare this CFL grow to, so I couldn't really say if I liked them or not.

But who knows. I may end up upgrading to a small-ish tent with a proper carbon filter so that I can reduce the smell outside the grow area to zero. Then I could also play around with upgrading lights. For now, though, the CFLs grew a decent-sized plant (at least from my perspective), and I'll soon be seeing how the end product smokes. :woohoo::smoking:

Even though you don't THINK you have, you have now been bitten by the grow bug.
You will find yourself looking at LEDs and COBs at random moments online.
Then it will be tents.
Then Air Filtration Systems.
Then you will look at seed vendors and buy more seeds than you need.
Then it's BIGGER tents.
And more Lights.

Welcome to AFN and nice grow :D

Make sure you tell the world how much bud you got out the plant..

How do you plan to dry? Do you have a closet or grow room?

How long you going to cure before smoke?

Do you have boveda packs or Hygrometer to monitor humidity during cure?

Good luck

Will do on the weight. I have a scale on it's way now.

For the drying, the plan is to slightly modify the trash can. When the plant was little, I had two strings strung across the top of the can from which the lights hung so that they could be as close as possible to the plant. The strings were removed when the plant got bigger, and the lights were then hung from the lid. Now that the lights are removed, I'll re-install the string and use that to hang the buds from, with the two fans in the lid providing the air circulation via the passive vent at the base.

I'll cure for a week or two before the smoke. Though I may have to sneak a nug prior to that. :smokeit:

No hygrometer for the cure, nor any plans to get one. I will grab some Boveda packs, though. Shortly after the cure, I have a long vacation coming up. So I'll burp the jars until then, and then put the Boveda pack in so that they can be nice and safe whilst I'm gone. :cooldance:
