Photoperiod First Photo Attempt: Green Crack and Bubba Kush

Quick update on lighting:

Boosted the 3000k to 100% and the R-Spec to around 90%. Also running a RapidLED Red Puck to supplement the 3000k.

Currently measuring a range of 500-1000 PPFD from edges vs middle; with an average of around 750PPFD. Power draw is around 320W actual from the wall, with lights around 20" from the canopy.

Any suggestions on how to keep my net flat? It's really starting to "hump" in the middle lol. As I said on my last post, next time I use a trellis I'll use a rigid frame and try to keep the netting as tight as possible.

In the mean time, any way to mitigate the hump? Lol.

I was debating tying a few small weights to some strategic points in the net. Not sure if that's a good idea or not. I guess the main thing is to push as much growth away from the middle as possible. Oh well...

Flower - Week 1
Week 1 of Flower

Hi everyone.

Thus concludes the first week of flowering. Specifically, it has been one week since observing pistils, and two weeks since flipping to 12/12. Not sure if that's the correct convention for counting flower weeks, but it is what it is.

Anyway, plants are healthy. Lights are on max, feeding as per early bloom nutes on the GH Flora Series Expert Drain-to-Waste lineup. Watering to 20% run-off every 24 hours. The Green Crack is drinking 6L a day; the Bubba Kush around 5L a day. I'm going through crazy amounts of nutrient solutions here. I've been mixing in a a 5 gallon bucket and it's barely lasting me 2 days. Probably going to get a bigger bucket the weekend lol.

I also retired the turkey baster and got a fuel siphon to deal with the run-off. Much better, but I think an electric pump would be ideal.

Training and pruning wise, I'm continuing to tuck under the trellis as the plants are still stretching. I mitigated the hump in the middle by wrapping some pipe-cleaners around screws and hanging them on the trellis at a few locations. I've been very conservatively removing a few leaves here and there, but I haven't done any major haircuts. I'm thinking I'll give them another week or so then remove all or most of the growth underneath that won't be getting any light for the remainder of flowering.

Any pointers in that regard would be much appreciated.

Been through the thread Tron, keep it up :smoker1: if your net is still humped I think you just need to push it down further and let the branches hold it. The structure is real dense from all the training you've done, loads of growth in there so do put that net to work

Many thanks pal!

The hump is definitely flattening. There’s still some less dense areas in the four corners so I’ve been focusing on getting the growth away from the middle and into those corners and it’s definitely been helping :D

My main concern now is doing a bit of defoliation now in this period of 14-21 days since the flip. I’m thinking I’ll pretty well remove everything below the trellis line this week and any other fan leaves I can’t tuck in the middle. I’ve been doing the occasional prune since the flip but nothing too crazy.

Cheers!

On the pruning, I'd do a bit of it right now then at day 21 do the rest. There's no need to remove leaves unless it's dense as fuck with a cause for concern in regards to mold. Prune any branches that are not getting into the net. Day 21 is great because the stretch usually has stopped by then so you know what won't reach the net and you can cut all that under growth.

I have two 55g barrels with my RO because I run through water. 8 plants in 5 gallons plus a gang of plants in veg, went through 30 gallons in one day. I'd suggest a decent sized trash can or one of those storage totes with wheels, make your fertilizer and throw a small pump in there to keep water circulating.

SOS: The Bubba Kush has hermied :(

@Death The Cultivator @Suki813

Any advice on how to proceed?

I did my day 21 trimming yesterday and found around 5 proper ballsacks on my Bubba Kush:

I’m going to give the plant one more once over tonight and carefully remove them. What’s the protocol here? Should I just toss the plant altogether?

Personally I'd just take them off and keep a close eye but its up to you really.

Week 2 Flower: RIP Bubba Kush
Week 2 of Flower: And Then There Was One

Well folks, today is day 22 since the flip. Like I said on my last post, I started counting flowering days on first signs of pistils which was two weeks ago. Yesterday, I did my first major trimming session and removed all the growth that hadn't made it's way to the net. It took about 2 hours, and I removed as few fan leaves as possible. Basically, only leaves that were proper nuisances were removed.

And if you've seen the above post, I have a bit of bad news: I spotted some male flowers on the Bubba Kush. I snipped as many off as I could find, then slept on it...

Today I decided to take the plants out of the tent and get a proper look. Unfortunately, I found a lot more balls. The Bubba had hermied. I decided to cut my loses, and I destroyed the plant. Now, only the Green Crack remains. I'm happy to report the Green Crack looks pretty healthy, and there is zero sign of any male traits.

I put a new trellis on it and tried to pry as much as I could to the outsides to try to fill up as much of the tent as possible. I think I'll give this another week or so to continue to fill up space in the tent before I just let her be.
