Hi folks. I mentioned the start of this one a little while ago but though I'd start fresh in the newbies forum with some pics of the girls. This is my first grow - 2 x Green O Matic, one each of Aut Mazar and Auto Blueberry. Medium is coco coir/perlite and some clay balls. Have Dutch Master and Cyco nuts (not used yet) but thanks to FD's threads I'll be looking at making my own teas as well (gotta love the seakelp etc). Lighting is a bit of mixed bag at moments - trying out what will do the job with less heat etc and have been use LED panels (cheapo 1 watts) and a 150W 2700k CFL - would have another but waiting on a replacement. Have a 400W HPS for when they get a bit bigger (and when I can get the fun noise down a bit). Anyways - long way to go on this but great to make a start.

Any comments/advice as I go will be most welcome and being that I have crappy eyesight please let me know if you see anything in the pics over time that needs to be brought to my attention - as even though it might seem plain as day to you, might be less obvious to me.

So here are the girls at 4/5 days old. Those that I can get closest to the CFL are doing the best so looking forward to getting the other replacement.

Great to see your grow log, glaucoma! It looks like you've gotten started on the right foot. The plants look very healthy... Great Start!!

I would make one suggestion, and it's not a big deal... I like to use bulbs with more blue on seedlings and young plants, like 6000-6500K. This will normally be your "daylight" cfl's. A couple 23w-27w (100w equiv) cfls will be plenty of light for a couple seedlings, right up until it's time to put them under your HPS.

But, I know others who go so far as to put their plants under the HPS from start to finish so, like I said, it's not a big deal.

As one of the mods for the New Grower sub-forum, I'd like to offer my appreciation for being the first to start a grow log in the new forum. Muddy is the other mod and, while I have good intentions, Muddy has a wealth of experience and accomplishments as a grower. I'm certain he will be along to say hello shortly. :peace:

cheers mate. is nice to be the first grow log in the new section. Have been reading, reading, reading many of yr posts along with Muddys (along with everyones) so the help and info is truely appreciated.

Yep, got a 6400k in the mail to me as we speak - will be trying to use the CFLs as much as possible to reduce heat etc (and possibly a seperate veg/bloom area) with the LEDs as side panels.

Am itching to give them some nutes (being new) but am being good and only giving them aerated (thanks FD), PH'd water at moments.

So good to be off to a start!

Hey man, if you're itching to give them something, you can go ahead and mix some beneficial fungi with your pH'd water. It will really stimulate root growth.

There are lots of products available and some are very inexpensive, but effective. If you're not sure what I'm referring to, just google "mycorrhizae" and/or "trichoderma". There is nothing in it that can burn or be toxic to young plants. :peace:

nice one mate - cheers

from a quick google looks like that can be found in the worm castings I have. Safe to give them a little worm shit liquid? Oh, I also have some liquid fish emulsion which might be in the same realm - Ill see if I can read the label!

The worm castings in a tea should be okay (I think, not 100% sure), but just when you would normally water. Watering too much is bad, whether you're using a tea or not.... I'm not sure it would give you similar results, even though it does have beneficial microbes.

I'd be careful with the fish stuff... isn't that an N fert?

Yeah, I just had a look and the fish stuff is fert so Ill hold off on that one - says doesnt burn but still... Might wait with the worm castings too for the moment - just ordered some proper stuff at a good price

cheers Bailer - I have been doing that dance myself. Might do it again now the eshop is open :booya:
