Day 8 update, still not that exciting.
I came home from running errands yesterday to find the other half had "fixed" the set-up. He moved the CFLs from being horizontally over the plants to vertical with just the top pointing over the plant. Also, broke a CFL in the process. Then he swore I wasn't watering them enough so he drowned them. Also, he had read online that they were "supposed to be on 12/12" so had shut their lights off. After a nice discussion things were put back to normal. I told him if they're are green and growing I must be doing something right.

Damn, you need to tell your man to stay the hell away from your grow! I'm glad he didn't screw things up permanently. You're just about at the age when you see growth really take off. Once they get a couple of sets of real leaves, it's off to the races. :smoke:

Muddy - very hard to judge exactly with the clamshell style rubbermaid. As when I raise the top the lights raise too. However, they are close to the plants. I would say 1-1.5 inches away.......Raise the lights? I have one 26watt CFL above each plant.
Also, I forgot to mention they're on a 20/4 light schedule.

That height is fine if your not burning them :smoke: You can raise them higher though if you want to, I have 1 26w and 1 42w about 3-5 inches from the light over the plant in my avatar

Like CB said, that distance is fine. I have 42w CFLs and I keep them around 2" away from the plants throughout the grow. But you do need a fan blowing between the lights and plant because the CFLs do generate some heat.
CFL's... I used them in my first auto grow to veg but not with my autos. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they output more light from the sides of the bulb... Be VERY VERY careful when disposing a broken cfl. They leak mercury and you don't want that on your skin, near your plants, or in your house for that matter. I don't think it's recommended to toss them in the trash. May have to find a recycling place to bring them. I have a bunch in a bag to bring myself, just been too lazy to do it! They burned out, none broken. Just looking out for you two and your plants.
