First Grow In Almost 2 Years!

@JP1 What about mother earth 70/30? That I can grab at the store in town. I try not to order things because I live WAAAAY out in the sticks like 40miles from town and UPS and FedEx does not deliver to me usually.

Do you start your seeds in final pot? And will using jiffy pellets for first 2 days slow down the growth at all?

No need for the jiffy pellet if I don't start in final home I just fill a modified solo cup with coco then transplant them. This way you don't have to mess with the peat pellets going acidic and it's all the same media they're growing in. I also am afan of the flora flex coco but have used many other brands based and brick. Brick always needs a good washing and brick or bagged doesn't hurt to buffer. I've used Floraflex, canna, botanicare, and via grow all with good luck. I personally wasn't a fan of fox farms coco and haven't used Mother Earth coco although I've heard good thing about it. I do use Mother Earth perlite when I get brick I mix perlite in 70/30.

Appreciate it man! I went floraflex coco for next round it was cheaper than any media I've found soil and coco wise. I'll never do brick coco again so you do top dress with MC? How does that work? I was going to just get GH trio after my trio is gone but also interested in the mega crop been reading about it seems simpler and still effective.

Yeah can’t blame you there brick can be more work but any of floraflex coco is good the one thing I’ve noticed with this bagged 70/30 that jp linked is it’s pretty airy and doesn’t take much to dry back.

Ook I saw a video on that last night mixing in water and air treating then feeding. I'll be hand watering though as I want to get the feel of when and how much for now. If I switch to coco all the way I will diy a drip system for sure. I don't like the trio honestly it's to potent but I don't waste anything so I gotta use it up before I will buy new nutes also my coco is not ready and my seed is germinated ready to go so I my have to use a jiffy pellets as that's all I have for it. Think I'll be fine this run going that route?

I will say these dirty fabric pots are getting to my OCD. Definitely going to look into a longer lasting cleaner option in the very near future.

Air-Pots/Superoots or copies will work (air prune the roots) just as well as the fabric pots while being "cleaner," including no visible salts buildups; their rigid plastic is robust, retains its shape and resists dirt and salt deposits; the pots are infinitely recyclable while most fabric pots have limited life; etc. I use 50/50 Air-Pots and fabric bags, consider them overall equal.

For bags I like the "7 gallon" potato bags. Vs. most bags, these have a taller aspect/ratio, which I presume is better for cannabis and take up less valuable floor space, and a bottom side velcro patch you can lift to inspect the medium/soil and roots. I have a few potato bags! They are 5 gallon but do have the velcro window. I'll give one a go next round as I'm not doing potatoes this year anyways. I was looking into the rain science bags because the mesh has that plastic type coating on it apparently very easy to clean and you can bleach to take stains out.

Only time will tell I would think so but honesty I don't know for sure. I would make sure to soak or flush those pellets out with diluted nutes ph 5.8-6.2 Have you used the trio with coco? I wonder how that will work since it's designed for their soil that has stuff in it already.

Yes I use GH nutes and I use Royal Gold Tupur coco. I’ve been reading this thread and it was the first time I’ve heard someone talk about cleaning or buffering their coco before the grow. I’ve never done it so I don’t know what I’m missing I guess but since all my grows have been healthy and fruitful, I’m a little wary of changing up now. Im thinking that must be only be necessary if you start with a brick? As for the nutes, on my first visit to the hydro shop I told the guy I didn’t want to be guessing at ALL when it came to when to water, how much to water, when and how much to feed. He suggested coco since I have to fertigate every day and the GH nutes because they come with a detailed week by week feeding schedule. I use a 9 part nute system and I can easily see why someone would say it’s “more work” than just watering soil with an occasional top dress, but for ME since it only takes 10 minutes a week to mix the nutes, there is “more work” in wondering if I should water today. Hope that makes sense. I assumed when I started that I would venture out and try new nutes because I heard that GH is pretty generic but two years later I’m still happy with the process and the results.

Edit…just remembered that after about a year of using my coco I saw on cocoforcannabis that the guy was using the same Royal Gold Tupur coco as I was and he said:
I am currently growing in Royal Gold Coco. I met their senior product specialist at a conference and was impressed with his knowledge and their processes. He sent me a sample which I am using now and very happy with. This is one of the only coco grows in which I have completely avoided “CalMag problems”. The mix of fiber sizes also promotes better water distribution. Unfortunately, it is currently available only in the US. If you want to grow in this coco, I recommend looking for it locally, because shipping makes online prices expensive. If you are forced to order online, then there are more cost-effective options which you may want to consider.

I will vouch for @Greenleaf Nutrients MegaCrop dude, I have always DTW feed with MC and no problem....I just weighed out what I needed, put it in the water till it dissolved, Ph and serve dude.....I only stopped using it a little while ago bcoz I ran out haha.....it's good stuff dude!!

Thanks for chiming in good info. Yes from what I’ve seen most bagged coco is pretty good outta the bag. It just became habit for me from using brick which it is necessary IMO. Now the Floraflex bagged coco is 6x washed but it is not buffered at least from what I can tell
