Well, I must say these cobs are magic. The low heat for the wattage is what gets me excited! Being in Oz get some pretty hot summers, cobs helping keep things steady so far, but 40c days heading are way soon enough :S have a slightly small selection of seed banks that send down this way, been using Herbies in the uk which has worked out well so far, not sure if they stock mephisto or fast buds, I’ll have to have a gander

Day 9

A little too excited at this stage I reckon, definitely no need for daily updates, but I’m gonna anyway! I was rather impatient at this stage of the grow last time, but now the kitty is stocked I’m actually really enjoying watching these little seedlings grow everyday.
They’re still showing signs of light stress so raised lights up to 72cm, see how they go.
Gave them some rhizo today, 1/4 strength from the recommended, 1ml to a litre, they got 500mls each, phd to 6.8. Rhizo was crazy alkaline, I bubble my tap water in a 20litre container and it usually raises up to 7.8-8ph in time, addition of rhizo took it to 9.2!! Not sure if that’s normal, so made sure my ph pen was calibrated correctly, which it was.

Have a question actually, does it matter if temps stay the same for night and day or is it beneficial to have a drop during lights off?

Thanks guys!

It's ideal to have some temp drop off during lights off. After all, that is what happens in the wild! I wouldn't recommend too drastic a drop, however, but 10 degrees or less would be right on the money. Of course, I am assuming that you are operating with good temps in the high 70's/low 80's during lights on.

F W , 72 cm is good , I run 450 watts [ cobs ] at that height and let the plants grow into it . your ph has me a bit concerned , I would aim for 6.5 , you are using ph down ? also are you able to ph your soil . I have found 6,5 to 7 soil ph is ok , as long as you ph your feed to 6.5 . As you are in Australia if you want I can recommend Australian products every bit as good as what you are using or can get from overseas .

Definitely a little strange on the ph going that high. I have never heard of Rhizotonic doing that. I use a slightly different product, but it makes my ph go down, not up, and not even close to that much. Sound alike your water source may be contaminated or something causing ph fluctuations in the nute mix.

I had similar issues. I just looked at the last post, so I don't know the whole story. Get the ph sorted out though, otherwise you will have issues later on.

Temps ranges are 20.5c lows to 26c highs @Pigskinfantasy . Think I’m pretty good in that range, was just wondering whether it’s beneficial to have a nigh time difference, totally makes sense like you say, Mother Nature know best ai!! Cheers man

Pretty much running the same as you @hecno , got 400watts of cobs with some blurple leds in the mix, good to know they’ll be happy growing up with the lights initially set at 72cm. I’m actually in Canberra so lucky to have a hydro store here. Using canna terra professional soil mix which I reckon is pretty stable, did a soil ph test last round and the potting mix is hovering somewhere between 6.5 n 7. I’ll be ph’ing my feed to 6.4 from now on glad to have you on board and your Australian wisdom! I’ll hit you up if I’m looking for anything ;) thanks bud

Yup, it’s very strange @MedCzech , all the other nutes in the lineup bring my ph down, it’s possible I got a bad bottle of rhizo? Smells good though, well, smells like arse but it smells as if it should be good for the plants! I phd the mix after letting it sit for a little while to ph 6.8, I will be lowering that a little with feeds to come to say 6.4 using ph down. My water source is pretty pristine, apart from the chlorine, right now my water comes out of the tap with an EC of 0.0! Ppm 500 comes out at 50ppm. The water where I come from is sourced from the mountains, so pretty clean. Just to be sure, I tested my ec pen with a calibration solution and it was spot on. So definitely not the water.
The mix was literally just the rhizo, for just 1ml of rhizo to 1 litre of water a jump in ph from 8 to 9 does seems pretty huge, but I phd down to something respectable, would never give my plants anything at ph9! May possibly be worth getting in touch with Canna to ask them, definitely don’t want to be feeding them something that’s gone bad! Any idea if there’s a canna Rep here on afn? Thanks for the look in

Cheers guys! Appreciate the help!

Day 11

So found out from another member canna’s rhizo will raise ph by 1-2 so all normal on that front.
Saw a little fly in the tent yesterday so put up some traps, nothing stuck to the traps though and I don’t see any life flying around today. Had a poke through the soil too and nothing to be found.
Temps ranging from 20.4c to 27.5c, RH 35-70. Rain here yesterday so humidity jumped in the basement.
Don’t think they’re ready for water yet, they got 500mls two days ago with the rhizo, and reckon there’s still water available in the pots from the pre soak, will leave them another day or two.

No.1 was a bit crooked this morning, I’d spun her pot as they both seem to lean inwards, but it didn’t straighten out her stem. Have made a little support for her to keep her straight for the time being. She’s now working on 4th node but a bit shorter than no2. Looking a tad droopy but will see what happens, she had quite a bit of adjusting to do after getting the wire support so I’ll put it down to that.

She’s gained a fair bit more height that no.1 now standing at 9cm compared to 7cm. Working on her third node pretty happily. She’s praying to the light which I can only assume is a good thing :) stem straight as an arrow since she got a spin.

Wondering if there’s anything in my control which has meant these two are different, or if it’s just down to pheno? Whatever the case, looking good so far. Will carry on with the rhizo for the time being, water, feed, water etc. don’t think they’ll need nutes for another week or more potentially. Next question is when to top, thinking above 4th node, probably in another few days to a week. Hopefully no.1 perks up before I get to it.

Thanks guys!!

Day 13

Gave the girls 450mls plain water ph 6.4 today. Climate is at its usual 20.4-26c. Growth going well, secondary branching looking good, not quite larger enough for some tucking yet.

She’s perked up and I removed her stem training brace, still a little wonky, but she’s pointing upwards which is all that matters! 4th node starting to open up and 5th being worked on.

All looking good, bit more spacing than no.1 between nodes, and still praying to the lights. Wondering whether they really did need watering but soil seemed very dry.

Good colouration on both of them, so gonna carry on without feeding for the time being apart from the rhizo. Probably be topping in the next 7 days :)
