Dutch Passion Dutch Passion Brooklyn Sunrise Organic SIP

Looking good! Yep, you can tell the difference!

The original takes twice the soil and the box takes more space so we will see what final is per .... One thing to note is height of the original compared to the junior - folks with short tents, light distance might be an issue?

38-39 days above ground ....... Both girls are looking well with the Original Earthbox Plant leading the way and it should be - the original holds over twice the soil as does the Junior ....

Been training to keep canopy even - I like the results thus far .... I love the Earthbox, makes watering a non-item, no picking up pots or sticking moisture meters in the soil, which btw don’t always work as well as we like - earhbox eliminates one of the main reasons for stunted growth, over or under watering ..... If you haven’t tried an Earthbox SIP container you might wanna consider as they are almost idiot proof ....

Looking fantastic!
Does using EB require a certain type based mix or will any media used in a living soil type grow work?

Good question .... A SIP container, as you probably know, works by wicking moisture up ...... so soil need to be to wick not drain like soil you would use in a fabric pot .... soil needs to be peat based verses sand or drainage rock based - you don’t want lava or sand in the soil ....

here is Earthbox guidelines

Great and Thanks!
My Roots Organic Original, currently in use, and the Mother Earth(couldn't get more Roots locally) currently cooking in a tote, will both work.
I do understand EB's reasoning on the dolomite in growing tomatoes, but not really with growing canna with the way we top dress with different things and my addition of HumiChar(50/50 mix of humic acid and biochar) to help moderate the soil.
I also don't get their method of adding their fertilizer in the centerline in bulk. We're not row cropping here! I've side dressed tons with Sustane(composted turkey manure granulated fertilizer) while planting many acres of row crops. It makes sense in row cropping with less fertilizer used and better production.

I didn’t go with additional dolomite in my EB either, as I couldn’t understand why my soil would work well for any other container, but needed a crap ton of dolomite for the EB. I decided to just use the same soil that I was using in fabric pots and see what happened. I am pretty happy with both boxes, so far. I plan on not disturbing the soil and going full no till after this run, so still no dooomite.

I haven’t taken a recent full box pic, but here is last week’s view.

Thanks man!
It just doesn't make sense to me why to do it growing canna.

I did 3 back to back in my junior and having worms inside was prob a mistake! I think I may have had 10+ of almost liquid worm castings through soil and all over in water reservoir! It was like sludge! Dumped a bunch and then turned that soil into worm bin and added soil, straw and about to add coco to pull moisture out! All I did was cut stem below soil line and then covered it up and replanted in opposite end! Worked great! This here is 3rd plant in a row in junior #2!

Rocbudinc grape slurri auto (grape Rolex auto X slurricane) but she didn’t auto for whatever reason so was flipped day 40 like 9 or 10 days ago! About to start pulling her open now that I got some heavy nuts I can hang on wire ties to pull branches down! Pretty damn tall now for a super indica heavy plant!

Hey @MOB what would u recommend for me to be able to screen castings from worm bin! 1 benefit of the 3 plants in a row is tons of castings were made during that times

Sam didn’t get lime but Brooklyn has ...... in between these grows I had several, all in Juniors but towards the end I was noting what appeared to be calmag issue but again those where Juniors used .....

anyways there are ,lots of things I don’t understand such as why so many tractors or cars on lots or which came first, chicken or egg so I depend on experts to help and Earthbox recommends dolomite so I’ve added this grow but not in quantity specified, rather I sprinkled a small quantity into each layer as I build the box ..... also added some crushEd oyster shells and a little kashi and some seabird guano at far end down low in box for flowering ......

Thus far only issue I noticed was early on with what looked like nitro burn but that could be soil was a little hot but now all looks real solid and that issue was only in the Original Box, Junior never showed any issues .....

Time will tell how but now all seems well ..... gardening is one big experiment - I’m always going to want “more better”.

They recommend dolomite for all plants ..... Again I’m not sure why and I added MUCH less than they recommend but I did add and all seems well ......

The fertilizer I understand and depending on planting configuration they do side as well ..... Top dressed fertilizer takes awhile to dissolve and drift thru the soil, meanwhile plants are using food that’s baked into the soil ...... I see others top dressing also - check YouTube for Pedro Grows .....

I added some kashi and seabird guano to my soil and top dressed with compost and castings ...... I will sprinkle some seabird guano on top now that Flowering is in full swing and a little more kashi but not more that 1/4 cup junior and 1/2 original ...... and I’ll probably added some build a flower compost as well ....

Most of the time, I’m just not smart enough to know the whys so I just try to follow directions and use my common sense ..... If these girls do well, yes I will add dolomite in small quantity’s to each layer of soil as I build my box or top dress if reuse soil, which I will if plants turn out happy and I’ll top dress with fertilizer like KIS Nutrient Pack.
