I didn’t go with additional dolomite in my EB either, as I couldn’t understand why my soil would work well for any other container, but needed a crap ton of dolomite for the EB. I decided to just use the same soil that I was using in fabric pots and see what happened. I am pretty happy with both boxes, so far. I plan on not disturbing the soil and going full no till after this run, so still no dooomite.

I haven’t taken a recent full box pic, but here is last week’s view. View attachment 1237031

Flip what more could you ask for, nice bro, real nice, happy for you!

I did 3 back to back in my junior and having worms inside was prob a mistake! I think I may have had 10+ of almost liquid worm castings through soil and all over in water reservoir! It was like sludge! Dumped a bunch and then turned that soil into worm bin and added soil, straw and about to add coco to pull moisture out! All I did was cut stem below soil line and then covered it up and replanted in opposite end! Worked great! This here is 3rd plant in a row in junior #2!

About to start pulling her open now that I got some heavy nuts I can hang on wire ties to pull branches down! Pretty damn tall now for a super indica heavy plant!

Hey @MOB what would u recommend for me to be able to screen castings from worm bin! 1 benefit of the 3 plants in a row is tons of castings were made during that times

You have come a long way Mark since your first earthbox ..... You had so many questions back a year ago, think it’s your one year anniversary since starting EarthBox - good job bro .....

I use Garland 2-1 garden sieve .... it has two screens, one of which you find right .... I‘ve got two of them, one over fifteen years old and holding up well ..... one pictured is about 2 years old .... I like shifting with large screen first and then smaller screen depending on were castings will go - when in garden I just use large screen but containers I shift finer ....

Amazon product

Price shown is not correct, that’s for single screen, you want the double screen model at $31 ......

They recommend dolomite for all plants ..... Again I’m not sure why and I added MUCH less than they recommend but I did add and all seems well ......

The fertilizer I understand and depending on planting configuration they do side as well ..... Top dressed fertilizer takes awhile to dissolve and drift thru the soil, meanwhile plants are using food that’s baked into the soil ...... I see others top dressing also - check YouTube for Pedro Grows .....

I added some kashi and seabird guano to my soil and top dressed with compost and castings ...... I will sprinkle some seabird guano on top now that Flowering is in full swing and a little more kashi but not more that 1/4 cup junior and 1/2 original ...... and I’ll probably added some build a flower compost as well ....

Most of the time, I’m just not smart enough to know the whys so I just try to follow directions and use my common sense ..... If these girls do well, yes I will add dolomite in small quantity’s to each layer of soil as I build my box or top dress if reuse soil, which I will if plants turn out happy and I’ll top dress with fertilizer like KIS Nutrient Pack.
With the way "we" mix up our medium for an organic grow, "fertilizer" is throughout the media. We all know it takes time for the natural process of top dressing will take time to be available to the plant. Organic mindset is to feed the soil, and all the little critters that inhabit it, and not necessarily directly feeding the plant. Just the simple fact of piling up the "fertilizer" in one central location, tells me that EB's mindset is to directly feed the plant. Maybe it's a holdover train of thought from using chemicals, but it's not the way true organics work.

I know you and most others reading this thread know this, but maybe it's not being fully absorbed or realized. Maybe it's from lending too much faith to the manufacture in them knowing what's best for the utilization of their product.

As I've said a few times on this forum, I'm a very inquisitive person. I need to know how and why a specific process or product is utilized and the reasoning behind it for me to work it out in my head so I can accept it or either reject it in it being something I want to utilize. I've been that way ever since I asked my Dad "Why is the sky blue?" My Dad was a very intelligent man, especially considering he only had the opportunity to attend school through the 6th grade because of being a farmer's in the first part of the last century. He always encouraged and fed my inquiries for new knowledge. I've wondered what he could have done if he had the opportunities of higher education.

So if anyone tires of my "Why is the sky blue?" questions, they can just blame my Dad! LOL!

Thanks buddy and man o man these boxes kick ass! You did see I have posted so many killer pics to my Instagram tagging earthbox I now have my ow custom coupon code for 15% off their site! If you ever order more it’s OrgMephHead and anyone can use it! And just over 1 year growing total for me and got 1st junior beginning of the year if I remember correctly! Def make it easy to grow big plants! Also I been using a company I found on IG homegrown bokashi and their kashi is baked with dry down to earth amendments so it’s charged some and topdressing it feeds soil and haven’t had any def yet! Only issue I had is ph on 1 right now and cuz my dumb ass TOTALLY FORGOT to add dolomite lime “ANY AT ALL” cuz I got lazy and built this soil before baking it using craft blend so totally spaced on lime!

Looking real nice, Mark! It’s great the soil should just get better each run.

You know, about the worms, I was wondering about that happening when you were adding more worms with each top dress during an earlier grow. I was saying to myself, where are all these worms going? Makes perfect sense if you are converting to a worm farm. I did add some worms initially, but no more afterwards, and after two runs, I do still see them when I lift the showercap.

Definitely have it sorted out, judging by the beautiful growth and color on top!

MOB, I never even heard of EarthBox until you came along, and now I love these things. So easy to use, and the results are awesome. As always, though, Ilike you said, it’s all about experimenting and seeinghow we can improve.

I like that philosophy, WB! Makes us all better, I think.
