Good read! I'll add the dolomite, but not banded. Same with the fertilizer. I think one key addition that I'll do is the addition of HumiChar. The humic acid and all the derivatives will help moderate the soil and be even more important for this style of growing.CUSTOMIZING A POTTING MIX: A good potting mix will already be pH balanced. Thus you should not need to lime. However, adding a little granular dolomitic lime won't hurt. It would simply supply a slow release of extra calcium and magnesium. If you want to add extra nutrients in a pre-fertilized mix, you can create small fertilizer bands or strips that are positioned a few inches away from your plants. Certainly if you expand the volume of your mix by adding perlite and/or pine bark mulch then it is good to add nutrients in proportion to the added volume. This is especially useful if you are adding bark products to offset any nitrogen draft that may occur.
@WildBill .... found this about potting mixes for SIP and a reason for Dolomite

Managing nutrients can be a very challenging & sometimes confusing. The strategies for fertilizing are slightly different from conventional in-ground or free draining raised bed gardens.albopepper.com
Yeah, nothing remains on the microfibers. The wash I use releases all spent material.Sounds like a plan ..... used microfiber towels, get that last nickel out of them, good reuse so long as no chemicals in the towels ....
I add EM1 to water, about 1/4 of suggested dose to each gallon water ...... and a splash of Bud bloom but again less that they recommend - like a 1/8 teaspoon verses 1-2 Teaspoons per gallon - I feel soil has enough nutrients and don’t want to overload but EM1 is very important, helps keep water fresh too .... and you will be surprised how much water per day a plant will use - I had Sam taking at her peak 2.5 gallons per day ......
I was thinking about the Dolomite and I suspect the answer might involve SIP or Earthbox growing being an anaerobic - without oxygen, verses aerobic - with oxygen - Grow method - I’m not a hydro guy but I know enough to understand they use cal mag or have issues ..... now I don’t know but I thinking out load here that the soil at constant dampness level could be why?
The amount of HumiChar I used in the current grow won't harm the wicking action and it won't be in the wicking area. This stuff breaks up into microscopic particles very quicky when water hits it. I'm interested in examining the media I'm currently using. I want to see how much the top dressed HumiChar migrates thru the media. I know what it does in my lawn soil when top dressed. I'll adjust amounts based on what I find.@WildBill ..... Watch the bio char as it is won’t help wicking action and yes EM1 for sure, no EM1 might be @TxRebel/Mark smell issue .....
Moisture level, unlike cloth pots, is always constantly at 90-110 millibars and the constant even moisture the plants love - my Sam kicked butt in battle against some real good hydro guys - and as you know organic bud is the best, hands down .....
o raised worms in both cloth and EB and there was no comparison - EB had more than originally put in and cloth had less ..... I had a professional moisture meter in the cloth pots and keep it just perfect but still not good enough to reproduce worms but Earthbox I just filled the tank and bingo, worms worms worms and more worms .....
@WildBill will you be transplanting or direct plant cause if you transplant set up box early and get it started and when you transplant DON’T water in transplant, just make sure it has enough moisture in seedling and spray mist top a little but don’t water - soil is moist enough .... best of grows gro-bro!
I both have and use em1 and also the activated em1/em5 and em1 fermented plant extract! Only use the activated in the boxes tho! It’s just em1 that’s cooked with molasses to expand microbe population! Only other thing I add for microbes is lactic acid bacteria serum while more activated em1 is cooking! Oh also add slf100 now and then also!@WildBill ..... Watch the bio char as it is won’t help wicking action and yes EM1 for sure, no EM1 might be @TxRebel/Mark smell issue .....

The comment on pond water sold me on adding it to the rez water. It very easily could help Mark with the smell.
Speaking of that, do you have individual trays under the boxes to catch overflow when adding water or just place a rag under the overflow of the pot. I think a little over flow would be good to see and maybe smell the condition of the rez water. I'm pretty sure I'll be adding a full 4X4 tent tray to my tent.... mainly for easier moving the pots around.
