Those pots look a little shallow to me.
I'm fine with the big EB

Just an option .... The Original does a great job .....

For some folks the City Slicker might fit, especially for smaller strains .....

Depth is ok - you don’t want the box to be too high otherwise moisture won’t wick high enough - reason why a five gallon bucket isn’t as effective as a shorter planter .... does hold 1.5 cubic feet of soil, which is more than the Junior .....

Also note they recommend Dolomite as does EB so that makes me wonder?

It's an option for sure. I just like having more depth.

There's that Dolomite conundrum again! LOL!

Volume is what your interested in ..... CitySlicker holds 1.5 cubic feet and that’s a lot of soil ..... If too deep water won’t wick up but Original is correct depth until you start mounding dirt and compost up/over the top of the box, like I have done ...... What happens or more appropriately what doesn’t happen is the top soil doesn’t get enough moisture - so misting under the shower cap becomes necessary ..... also in early growth stage I put damp rags on top of the shower cap, which helps cap condensate undeRneath and provides humidity needed for early growth - I leave the rags on top through out the grow, but don’t wet them once we hit flower as I want lower humidity .....

Since your an outdoor guy - take a look at the plants and trees growing next to any river, their roots don’t go very deep - plants growing next to waterways don’t have deep roots - their roots spread out ..... Our girls don’t need tap roots either - reason why I start my plants in RootMaker starting pots, no tap roots - and I have done both ways, direct plant and RootMakers ..... Directly seeded plants in the Earthbox will form a tap root and that tap root will find its way down into the reservoir and you don’t want roots in the reservoir - at least that’s my belief .....

Dolomite yep, there it is again - so my take was to incorporate some into the soil mix - when I built my boxes I start with a one inch layer of soil in the box, spray mist soil and mix in some Dolomite and a little root and Kashi into that layer - I also put some seabird guano at the far end - note I plant at the end of the box so by the time roots reach the seabird guano its flowering time ..... I also sprinkled in a little kashi and oyster shells ... mist again and then comes next layer of dirt, rinse - repeat until I have box filled .....

Excited to see you grow in an EB.

I think it will be interesting. I've got two options on my next grow. Look at the media from the girls, I wanna look at the root structure, and reuse if viable. Or use the media I have cooking in a tote.
I'm inclined to reuse the current media. If I do that, I'll use some fresh Roots media to pack the wick points and just re-amend thru top dressings with the worms helping me out. And yeah, I'll add the dolomite, but at half their recommended rate and mixed in.
Yeah, I've noticed the wet rag bit. I think I found a new use for my microfiber towels that were downgraded to non-paint use. LOL!

Sounds like a plan ..... used microfiber towels, get that last nickel out of them, good reuse so long as no chemicals in the towels ....

I add EM1 to water, about 1/4 of suggested dose to each gallon water ...... and a splash of Bud bloom but again less that they recommend - like a 1/8 teaspoon verses 1-2 Teaspoons per gallon - I feel soil has enough nutrients and don’t want to overload but EM1 is very important, helps keep water fresh too .... and you will be surprised how much water per day a plant will use - I had Sam taking at her peak 2.5 gallons per day ......

I was thinking about the Dolomite and I suspect the answer might involve SIP or Earthbox growing being an anaerobic - without oxygen, verses aerobic - with oxygen - Grow method - I’m not a hydro guy but I know enough to understand they use cal mag or have issues ..... now I don’t know but I thinking out load here that the soil at constant dampness level could be why?

Junior goes to the Gym ......

In an effort to get light to lower sections of the plant and to keep an even canopy I hang wire hooks on branches so as to pull branches outward and unlike conventional tie- down methods - branches are lowered by the weight of the wire - which in turn helps strengthen the branches so they easily support the future FAT buds they will grow ....

First pic shows overhead view, hard to see but heavy candy cane wires are hanging on the branch ends drawing branch out and away from center

Side view pic you can see some of the candy canes drawing down branches - also note fan blowing up / under the canopy

Will leave on for 12-15 hours, then release and let grow, maybe do a branch or two as they grow - these girls I’ve read take well to training and it looks to be true thus far!

MOB basic training! Looking great, man!

CUSTOMIZING A POTTING MIX: A good potting mix will already be pH balanced. Thus you should not need to lime. However, adding a little granular dolomitic lime won't hurt. It would simply supply a slow release of extra calcium and magnesium. If you want to add extra nutrients in a pre-fertilized mix, you can create small fertilizer bands or strips that are positioned a few inches away from your plants. Certainly if you expand the volume of your mix by adding perlite and/or pine bark mulch then it is good to add nutrients in proportion to the added volume. This is especially useful if you are adding bark products to offset any nitrogen draft that may occur.

@WildBill .... found this about potting mixes for SIP and a reason for Dolomite
